Engine Oil Service at The M Shop

Hello everyone!

For those that aren't DIY types, I would like say that The M Shop can do in between engine oil services for all new 3-Series with the N52 and N54 engine.

Price is $70.00 and that includes one filter and 6.5 liters of synthetic engine oil. Tax and hazmat fee applies.

We use ELF Solaris LSX 5w-30 and MANN filters. We use ELF because it has a BMW LL-04 rating and is formulated for multivalve, turbocharged, and direct injection systems.
ELF Solaris Product Data Sheet

If you want to bring your own engine oil and filter that is fine with us. Just pay for the labor and hazmat fee.

We work by appointment only so please call me at 323-257-5773 if you would like to setup an engine oil service.

Cool I am interested, is your oil better than OEM? How much is the final price for an oil change using your oil and how much final if I bring my oil and filter? Thanks

Yes I feel that the ELF LSX is better than the BMW Synthetic engine oil thats sold in North America.

The BMW High Performance Synthetic Engine oil isn't even LL-01 or made in Europe. It does meet the SAE and ACEA ratings though.

ELF is imported from Europe and the LSX is a high quality premium synthetic engine oil.

There are other LL-01 and LL-04 synthetic oils out there that you can buy on the shelf like Mobil 1 and Castrol but make sure they made in Europe or have the BMW LL spec ratings. Amsoil also has a LL-04 rating as well.

Now does it matter if you still want to use the BMW High Performance oil? Well, if you plan on doing in between oil services then the BMW synthetic is fine but I will never leave that oil in there for 15k miles.

I just did my own today ( i do them every 3k), had trouble removing the oil filter cap using a strap wrench, i spent 52 on Royal Purple 5W-20 (which is one of the most expensive oils) and then another 20 on an OEM filter...and after that it was 72......... So you can DIY for about 70 or less if you buy cheaper oil. Cuz your M shop still has taxes and hazmat fees so its like what? 80 bucks? thats as much as any other shop would charge.....not really a good deal at all. But good luck.

Comes out to $76.xx with taxes and disposal fee. It's $6.50 a liter (6.5ltrs), $10.90 for the filter, rest is labor.

But again I am offering the service for owners that are not the DIY type or if their "home" area prevents them from doing auto maintenance. At least they don't have to buy a drain pan, floor jack, jack stands, and/or ramps.

Are you sure they charged you $20.00 a filter? Is the part number 11427566327? Now we don't buy our filters from the dealer. We use MANN filters which are only $10.90 and MANN makes BMW OEM filters.

Wow.. I think you're the most owner that has ever paid for a filter. Before you I read someone paid $15.00.

I would like to sell you a case of filters however, I feel that you should call another dealer in your area and see how much they sell the filter for.

The MANN filter we use comes with one large o-ring, one small green o-ring, and the crush washer.

DIY changing oil to save $15? That's what, $15 an hour? No thanks, my times more valuable then that. I also don't do my own yard work.

Wish you guys had a shop up here in Norcal.

So how much would it be if I bring my own oil and filter? How much would the labor be? And how much would it be for my friend's E46 M3 S54 engine? Thanks

Labor for the 335i will be about $16.85 plus $1.00 disposal fee.

S54 engines I think is $90 or $95 for parts and labor.

That's a great price, Jon. I'll definitely visit you for an in-between service oil change. At what mileage would you recommend the first oil change?

Thank you.

First 1200 miles, then 7500 miles after, then get the free oil service at the dealer, then every 7500 miles from then on.
