spray paint...

Hey guys,
I keep spray paint on a shelf in my garage and it looks like I need to make sure an point it away from my car because it can spit when ever it wants...

I have since thrown that bastard can in the trash, and attempted to remove the paint with clay bar and rubbing compound. Those have only seemed to make the paint feel smoother...
Before I try any methods recommended by google, I thought I'd check with the pros who know what the e90 paint is like.

I think it has been on there for about 2 days and it can not be chipped off with my fingernail either.

Thanks for any help provided!

2000 grit wetsand but be very gentle. the less risky option would be using polishing compounds. regardless of which option, polishing and buffing would still be needed. i would only recommend wetsand as a last resort.

Hit that panel with compound and it should come off pretty quickly. Just polish and seal after and you will be good to go!

That sucks. Temperature change may have caused the can to spit? Prep Solve may remove it without hurting the OE paint?

more aggressive claybar. Its relatively fresh, so it shouldnt be too hard yet. Then a machine compounding followed by a polish should restore the look and clarity of the paint. of course, seal the car afterward

Thanks for the help.

Yea it must have been the temp change, or I suppose it could have been one of my little ones playing around. I won’t know for sure since I did not see it, but I will for sure keep the cap on the cans and keep them away from the cars from now on.

I think I will stay away from the sandpaper for now. Although wet sand would get rid of the orange peel right.

Would this count as a more aggressive clay bar?

I suppose if anything this will give me a reason to get polisher.

I would first try a solvent such as Prep-sol, even before claying with an aggressive clay, wet sanding would be my last resort. Keep in mind that usually an aggressive clay can cause micromarring as well, so you will need to polish the area afterwards if you go that route.

yes that is a more aggressive claybar.

prep-sol might work, but if not, stick with claying...you shouldnt have to wetsand that out. I would be really surprised if you have to go that route

I've used gasoline with really good results on my cousin's vandalized Infinity. The spray paint came right off. Then I washed the area really well, polished it, then waxed it. The clear coat didn't get damaged at all and 2 years later you can't even tell anything happened to her car.

I was kind of afraid of the products that I bought, they all seemed so strong even though they were made for it, so I figured I'd start with something that automakers know is going to spill on a car occasionally.

good luck!

The prep-sol worked! It took some elbow grease, but it is of now.

The gas theory seems to make sense too.

Now I just need to seal it.
