Driver Seat Feeling "Flat"

Hi guys

This is a repeat of a post over in the UK area, but thought i'd expand my reach a little as perhaps this is an odd issue i have.

The driver's seat in my E93 M-Sport feels like the gap between the bottom of the back rest and the back of the seat base is too big.

It feels like the seat base is a bit too flat at the back, under my backside.

Is this normal for these seats, or could it be where it's worn over it's 12 years?

I'm looking at having the seat base foam replaced but want to make sure i'm not replacing like for like and don't want to waste the money.

Anyone have any feedback on this please?

Cheers

photo?

There's probably a 3/4 gap on mine. Seems normal.

It's in the garage having a bit of TLC so cant get a photo at the mo.

To be honest its not particularly noticeable to look at, it's more how it feels. It just feels hard at the rear but soft in the middle and front.

Is that just how BMW seats feel??

sit in the passenger seat and compare?
assuming the passenger seat has much less wear.

I can't say that mine feels hard in any area, but I also have sport seats.
so it may depend if you have sport package or not.
I find the non sport seats lacking.

Thanks nsjames, I appreciate your feedback. When i'm back in the seat later today i'll get in the other side and have a sit for a while - perhaps i'll let the wife drive and see how the passenger seat feels on the move (perhaps....)

I remember lots of complaints that BMW reduced the seat padding when the E90 vehicles were made. This was due to cutting production costs and reducing environmental waste.

The best padded sports seats were in the E46/E39 era since then the padding has been reduced.

Yeah it does seem a lot less padded than my E46 was.

I sat in my sister's 4 series coupe today and the driver's seat definitely felt better.

I'll be getting mine back tomorrow so i'll let you know how the passenger seat test goes.

Nice avatar by the way! COYS!

I know on my 3rd gen Lexus LS, this is common that the seat cushion flattens on the driver's side. People have ordered the replacement foam and most have had an upholsterer install it (it's a more involved DIY with special tools). It's proven by trying the passenger side and finding it's really good. A buddy who has a 550i said his theory is it has to do with cars that have cooled seats, because the foam has holes in it, so the cushion sags over time. But our 3's do not have cooled seats. My 335i's sport seats are very firm, but my mileage is only 53k.

E46 vert with 120k miles seats? meh, kinda hard
'07 E91 with sport seats, 160k? still good!
'10 E91 with non-sport seats, 165k? Like sitting on flat rocks...

TT with whatever came from the factory 18 years ago? Very nice! But not enough side bolstering...

I'm told that F30 and F80 seats bolt right into the E90.
Hmmmmmm.
