Goodbye RFTs!

*cue applause*

So I'm ditching my Continental ContiProContact RFTs for regular tires.

Anyone have recommendations for a 2006 330Xi MT? My brother has a 2006 330Ci ZHP with Continental ExtremeContact DWs and his car drives amazing.

iTech - that's exactly what I just ordered. I wanted the new Michelin Sport A/S 3's, but they probably won't be available for a while.

Are you looking for all-season tires or summer only performance tires? Is handling and steering response your main goal, or is tread wear and ride quality more important?

+1 for Gary at Tire Rack and Conti DWS!

Just put on a set of DWS on my wife's M-B E350 4Matic. All seasons for the kind of weather we get here in the DC Metro.

For an all-season, the DWS would be a great choice. Good performance to accompany a quiet/smooth ride.

Your suggestion for us SoCal base folks like yourself that don't have snow related concerns?

If you don't venture to colder climates, Hankook Ventus V12s, Continental DWs, or Michelin Pilot Super Sports.

All-season for sure since I live in Northern NJ. Handling and steering is key since I can handle ride quality decreasing a bit seeing as how I've been on RFTs this entire time!

Don't you ever drive the Grapevine during bad weather? Or venture into other high-elevation areas to the east or north?

another good "all-season with performance" alternative to Continental's DWS is Toyo's new Proxes4.

The DWS will greatly improve ride comfort and handling - with one caveat. Due to softer sidewalls, the initial turn in may feel a bit mushy although this will NOT affect grip. I easily got used to it, but if it is a problem, simply increase the pressures by about 3 psi over OEM.

And given the performance, cost and 540 tread wear rating, I doubt there is a better A/S value.

To the guys who change out the runflats...
since our cars don't come with spare tires, what do you guys do in case of a flat tire?

As most punctures result in a slow leak, I simply carry a small compressor and plug kit in the trunk - which I also do when driving on RFTs.

You mean the Proxes 4 Plus? Are you running it in SoCal? It's at the top of my short list (for Arizona - I'm looking for more mileage than I can get out of summer Bridgestone 760), can you tell me more about how it drives?

so far i've put on just under 500 miles. they're pretty decent for all season tires. relatively quiet. havent driven in rain yet, but as far as dry roads go, they're decent. grip is decent as well... predictable when it starts to lose traction. that was one thing that scared me when i used to run PSS... their grip threshold was so high, when i did cross it, it just completely broke loose for me - but on the FK452's (and these), the grip limit is definitely lower but i can feel it coming.

one thing i did notice about these tires, is that it seems to be more sensitive to steering input. it could be because im running 265/30 rears now compared to my previous sets of 245/35 FK452 rears and 255/35 PSS rears from before which had thicker sidewalls. but it took awhile for me to get used to the way it handles.

cant really say anything about mileage longevity since i only have 500 miles, but my friend at Toyo says these should get me pretty good life (PSS did too, but those suckers cost like 300 each lol).

Just got my new Continental DWSs on today. Seems to make all the difference in the world as the feel of the ride goes. As someone else said in a previous post, I'm in love with my car again.

Also, signed up for AAA today just in case of a flat. And, ordered a cheap air compressor to keep in the trunk.
