Oil level at minimum

I was driving today and I got a hazard triangle on the screen, It didnt show any text on what the problem was so I ran the check control and it came back saying that the oil level was at the minimum and that I need to get 1quart of oil as soon as possible... I will be taking it in to the dealer tomorow, I feel like the free service on my car sets everything back to far... I feel like with 13000miles my car needs an oil change new brake pads and a few other minor things I just wish they didnt make you wait so damn long!

I had to refill mine not so long ago, I keep an eye on the meter every so often just to make sure.

I had the light go up today as well, I have just 4600 miles on it and seems like I need to add more oil... is this normal?

I had this happen to me to. It happened Tuesday night and again Wednesday morning. My car had 4800 miles at the time. Luckily, I had already scheduled a service appointment to get the mp3 retrofit for my pre-Sept e90 w/nav, so they just added a quart of oil like the oil check screen said.

Is this normal? What does it mean when you're new car (pre 5,000 miles) is burning oil like that? I'm not an agressive driver or anything, and I am conscious about fuel economy.... but I like to have fun with the car on occasion, don't get me wrong.

Any feedback? Thanks.

All engines are slightly different. It is not unusual for some new engines to burn a bit of oil during break in. The valves are still seating as well as rings etc. If it continues to do it after 3,000 miles or so that might be indicative of a problem. 13,000 miles is on the other hand way to long without an oil change. I dont care what anyone tells you even synthetic should not go that long. I use full synthetic in every vehicle I own and have for years. I have put over 200,000 on even domestic engines and never even needed a valve job or suffered any compression loss. But I change my oil every 6,000 miles and will do so on the New 325 even with the dealer oil changes.. Oil is the life bloood of any engine, and the better shape its in the better shape the engine is in..

No offense but I have a problem when people make comments like this. I am pretty sure you have no basis for making these comments. Have you done validation testing to provide that oil used between 6k and 13k significantly reduces the engine life? Probably not. Do you think BMW engineers did? Guarenteed. I am a mechanical engineering who works in the auto industry, every change on anything we build requires extensive testing. I am sick of these home mechanics who "feel" that the engine will not last without new oil. All you can say is when you change oil every 6k you engine has lasted you 200k. This is good, and you should continue if you feel you must, but you should not conclude that changing oil every 15k will not allow the engine to work past 200k, when you have not done testing to prove your comments.

Sacrilege! Quaker State every 3000 miles! The TV doesn't lie! ...kidding of course.

But, those commercials are very convincing that if you don't change it every 3000 miles, bad things will happen to you. That's a good marketing pitch.

15000 makes me nervous.

I had the "ADD OIL NOW! message at about 2000 miles. It was like that for a few days. Of course, when I got to the dealer, it then said 100% full. After some discussion, they agreed to change the oil sensor (free oil change! ), since they couldn't really tell how much oil was in it. Now it reads %100. (???).

mister-e90:
I wouldn't assume it really needs oil at 4800 miles. Did it suddenly drop?

I just added 2 quarts in after 800 miles...then again I notice the oil was on the low side when I took deliver, now it's at full, we'll see how long it'll last, hopefully this isn't a problem with the engine
