DIY: HID Conversion for E90 Andy's Halogen Projectors

SO, For those of you who own my Halogen projectors, its a very simple modification for you to upgrade to Xenon My headlights are pre-wired for this HID upgrade and it will be a plug and play installation. Expect about 2hrs for the complete installation if this is your first time.

Okay. here are pictures, i hope it doesnt need much explaining.... ENJOY!

Hi Andy,

Some great pics. I've just purchased the MTEC kit (S-Type ballast) just like the ones on the left here :-

http://onspire.com/Authentic_Fake.htm

Purchased from a reputable official dealer in the UK and are genuine. Fingers crossed as to whether they will throw a OBC error or not (marketed that they will not !).

I've been looking around the threads and getting some ideas before I jump in and start the job on the E90 (320d M Sport). Couple of questions, in your pics you show the main Positive and Negative connections on your harness, can you advise where you connected these in view that the battery is in the boot (and have you any pics to show ?).

Also where did you mount your ballasts ? From what I have seen here, for a more professional and tidy finish I am looking to mount them as shown here :

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ht=mtec+xenons

Thanks.

For the positive i basically ziptied it to the postive terminal (on the back side because its flat) and thats it
also, in the link you posted the bracket looks awesome! i would definitely recommend making that so dont have parts flying everywhere when you're making hi-speend turns or whatever

Not quite sure what you mean about the positive connection ? Zip tied it where and on the back side of what ? Apologies if I'm not getting it !

I assume the photo is showing the earth/negative connection (Thanks btw).

Much appreciated.

The positive terminal under the hood. Lift the red cap off. The front of it is like a folded piece of metal, the back of it is smooth and flat, so u take the positive wire and ziptie it to the flat part of the positive terminal its the caveman way of doing it, some people drill a hole and bolt it on, your choice however... hope this makes sense

With this harness, are you able to turn on/off the headlights with the factory switch? Since the power is coming directly from the battery and not the factory headlight connector. Sorry I'm just trying to figure this thing out, please excuse my noob question.

Ok job done and results are impressive. MTEC build very solid and put together nicely and most importantly everything works sweet without any errors.

I went for the 6000k colour and I must admit the results are just cool ! MTEC do a fully tailored kit for the E90/91.

The pic shows where I fitted the offside ballast unit (The other side is pretty much the same). I originally planned to remove the front wheels to make life easier but my jack was too tall to get under the car anyway as it turned out getting the inner plastic linings off wasn't too bad even with the front wheels insitu.

The other pic shows where the live positive feed went (just unclip the plastic housing and unscrew the original bolt and connect - just as chesterfan1230 said).

I must admit its quite a straight forward process and not as daunting as I first thought. Anyone with a bit of DIY know how should be able to complete this job ... just do it in your own time. I took pretty much a full day as it rained on and off and I had to run in and out stopping my progress

Thanks for the tips guys

Wires

Were did you guys run the wirers from one side to the other? And were is it the safest? I am scarered about water damaging it. Does the resistor get verry hot and does the ballast get very hot?

Would appreaciate if someone has pictures showing were he installed each part, like a picture from far showing enfine bay and pointing arrrows to it.

If weather allows me I should install Andy's HID Kit today or tomorrow, if not next week!

yes, the headlights work just like factory, so does the headlight switch. the harness gets signal from the car and cuts on and off a relay which gets power from the positive terminal.

hope this makes sense

i took off my intake duct and there are several plastic clips that hold existing factory wires. i ran the harness wire through that. very oem looking..

the resistor does get hott so u will need to mount it to metal or make a small bracket, mounted to metal*. the ballast doesnt get hot at all.
