Tyre size advice needed

Hi, I'm still looking to sort my winter tyres out in advance of my car arriving. Spoken to BMW and they said they would need the chasis number etc before they could tell me what price. Couldn't tell me which alloys I could and couldn't put on it etc etc. No that helpful although I do understand their position to an extent.

So, in the real world, my mate has offered me a set of alloys on the cheap. According to the spec they are 17", 5x120 stud pattern (I think that means 5 studs and 120mm diameter) 8J width 72 bore and 34 offset. What I don't know is what most of that means and whether it'll fit a 2011 E90 saloon 330d M Sport?

Any advice would be great please. If there are OK then I should be OK to order a set of 225/45 Wintrac Extremes to go with them. The hey presto, safe winter driving and I won't be stuck in Sussex for weeks on end unable to get out of the driveway!

225 45 17 Wintrac Extremes should be just what you need, assume no one has any stock yet ? From my limited knowledge the wheels should be fine but no doubt someone else can confirm.

No stock yet from what I gather. I've just had a really useful chat with Camskill tyres. They will have the Vreds for pre-order at the beginning of August so stick it in your diary! They'll be getting loads of 225/45 17".

What I've just learnt though is that BMs have a separate winter tyre sizing which is on the inside of the door or petrol flap. And that even if the summer sizing is different (eg 8j front and 8.5j rear) that they move to a same sizing all round for the winter.

Frustratingly, in Germany and Italy when you buy a BM they come with two sets of tyres as it's law that they have them in the winter. Presumably that's all reflected in the price but how useful would it be if BM did the same thing for new cars too. Esp given how woeful BMs are in the winter without the winter rubbers!

Is there anyone there with a recent 330d M Sport that could tell me what the winter size is please? And if there's a note that states what the minimum size rim (17" I'd expect) and tyre size is?

Anything else I learn I'll post up here in case it's useful for anyone else.

Phil

Did you get a PM from Umesh (Mistry)?
