Sounds like a great economical decision! If you don't HAVE to have the power of the 335 but just want to pep up what you currently own, $250 is much better than 5k-10k you will drop to upgrade cars....

Individuals who purchase performance chips distinglish themselves to be desperate for performance. There are a few riced out civics parked across the street. You can hear the engine roaring in the middle of the night.

I would pony up for a new car instead of trying to upgrade.

I am thinking of getting BMS Powerbox for my 325i. for just around $300 for 10 hp/tq. I'd say that is a good deal for some of us with this engine and don't feel like spending at least 10k more to switch to another car.

does anyone have the Powerbox installed yet? how is it? can you feel the difference with AT ?

If you're chipping the 325i you should be doing so not for the 5-10hp increase, but for the better throttle. I hear it's much more aggressive.

I would chip the 325i. It's not like you really need 300hp. My 325i was a great DD, and chip should make you feel lighter on your feet.

Edit: I don't really know too much about N52 chipping, but I would probably recommend going with BMS. Based on my positive experience with their Juice Box, I think their N52 chip would be good as well.

+1
I have a 06 325i and I've read many reviews on performance upgrades i.e. headers, performance chips etc...and they hardly raise the horsepower to anything significant.

I would go with the BMS PowerBox. I have one installed on my 328 and while it doesn't give it anywhere near the power of a 335, it does make it feel quicker. The throttle response is greatly increased so you don't have the "hit the pedal, but wait a second or to go" feeling. It is pretty cheap and does give about 10 hp, but I honestly couldn't tell you that I feel the hp at all.

Upgrade vs new 335, thats a pretty personal question for you to answer (by the way, I would not buy new. You can pick up an 07 335 with less that 30K on it for somewehre in the $30K range - certified with warranty). If you think upgrade is the way for you to go, check out the ECU flash guys at GIACUSA.com The returns for the turbo 335 are crazy - not sure about the 325.

Good luck

Common guys, let the OP have some fun with his 325.

We all know the gains aren't worth it, but it's up to him.

...Sadly OP there's isn't much you can do. Chip, intake, exhaust....that's about it.

There's tons of cosmetic mods to keep your car "fresh" however.

Spending $250 bucks for ~ 2 - 5 hp gain is meaningless. The gain in energy is most likely lost in the form of heat and noise. If you want a good power gain, save $ and get a 335i (or a different car with more hp / torque).
thats not entirely true...the BMS box makes the throttle response better, although its not hp gains, there seems to be a better smoothness to the car from what I have heard which to alot of people makes a world of a difference in driveability of the car..Its not fair to say to someone that wants performance to get a 335i, some people dont have the extra cake to lay out for the engine upgrade, but that doesn't mean they can't upgrade whatever they have now!!

if you get anything, just get the BMS - it does make the car feel a lot more responsive. And it's also cheaper than an intake or exhaust. Not everyone wants or needs a 335i and the headaches that go with it. If you are just looking for easy improvements, the BMS is simple and doesn't make the car louder or more obnoxious, just more fun to drive. But If you are looking for big power gains, then you'll need to get another car.
