Cool Noobs First BMW - Finally

Hello all,

Well finally managed to drag myself away from the driving seat of my latest purchase and treat it to a much needed wash and Polish.

It was a disgrace after the 570 mile trip to get it home and my spirited B Road bashing over the last few days.

Been through 4 tanks of V-Power since Saturday

Anyway, here's my new Baby after a wash and polish







Loving the car now and will be showing it off this weekend at paintballing

It says 'Piano Black' interior trim but under closer scrutiny it actually looks colour coded to the bodywork as 'Piano Black' is not supposed to be Metallic.

Not sure what sound system is in it (definatley not Logic 7) but it's very good in my opinion with some very punchy subs under the seats.

Hi, thanks for the comment on my thread, your car is lush wish i could afford a 335.

Little tip on the rear parking sensors, when i brought my car they were fading purple. All i did was get the touch up paint, take the sensors out and drip the paint on the sensors untill they are covered by a thin layer. Leave to dry, refix and they will look spot on

Don't know what you paid for yours but I'm pretty sure I got mine at a fantastic price for what it is with the spec/condition/mileage etc. If you look hard enought they are out there.

Also thanks for the tip on the PDC sensors, saves me searching for a relevant thread.

Its not just the car thats the problem for my, i doubt i would even get insured at my age on a 335. :/

No problems, i couldnt find any threads on here about it so i just gave it a go myself and it worked perfectly.

You got a nice car there and at a good price. I'd have been tempted by that even though I want an auto. Best colour combo all round imo (exterior, interior both seats and trim).

I need to get round to calling the insurance company and seeing how much lube I'd need for a 335i.

On a drive there is virtually no difference in performance between the Scoob and this. In fact I'd bet that this is actually faster in a straight line than the Subaru due to the Gearing and the way it delivers such a ferocious amount of Torque from low RPM's not to mention the aerodynamic efficency. The Subaru has a very close ratio Gearbox meaning your constantly off the power changing gear whereas the 335i has the aformentioned Torque and nice long gears giving you more consistent acceleration.

Also looking at WHP this is no doubt equal if not more than the Subaru due to the intense amount of drag that the 4WD system on the Subaru has. 30-40%

In my opinion a set of Downpipes, Induction, FMIC, Coilovers with a decent geometry setup and JB4/Vishnu will have a 335i beating 500+BHP Scoobies/Evo's on road tyres round a track.

Depends on the driver.

For all people spend thousands getting more power, a driving tuition course would gain them more time.

Up here in Scotland a Scooby is a hugely effective car. So many great roads(England can only dream) where 4wd will eat anything.

However the balance and overall feel of RWD really is good.

Well both being tested on the same road with the same Driver (Me) The Subaru is only marginally faster due to the extensive geometry setup which I had carried out. With coilovers and an ARB kit (forgot to add that earlier) a little setting up the 335i will best the Subaru as RWD is a far better setup overall. Like you said about the Feel and Balance, they are cruicial to a driver getting the best out of themselves and the car. This however is void as soon as it starts to rain which is a bit of a problem as it always fecking rains up here.

The problem with early Subaru AWD systems is that they're fixed and do not adjust themselves according to conditions and driving style unlike Evo's/Audi etc....... (unless you get the later DCCD as found in the Type UK) You have to drive a Subaru in a certain way (Aggresive corner entries) in order to get the front end to grip properly without washing out under power. A lesson I nearly learned the hard way.

At the end of the day a RWD will beat a 4WD (Assuming they both have the same tyres and similar weight/power/setup) round a 'Dry' track. I will admit that when the rain comes it's 4WD all the way.

By the way I'm not suggesting in anyway that I'm the Stig's more talented brother, I'm just saying that they are both as fast as each other at the moment in my hands with the Subaru being completely modified (well as far as I want it) and the BMW stock. Come mod time the BMW will win. I'm not being biased in any way as I love them both.

To the OP - very nice, and congrats on your purchase. You got a bargain, I feel.
OK I'm biased, but I cannot see a better mix of price/performance/class and practicality than a mint used 335i right now - enjoy!
Oh, and if it snows (unless you've put winter tyres on) leave it on the drive, stay indoors and plan the mods you'll do in the Spring. Always remembering that stealth is best............

which impreza sti did you have OP? any pics?...

I've smoked a few impreza stis on a straight, but they can be very fast around the bends!...I test drove the new impreza sti recently, felt really good around the bends and you definitely need to be in the "right" gear for it to be fast!....

Absolutely right about drivers course. Hey, there are some awesome roads in England if you know where to look, don't forget Wales, I live on the borders and excursions into Wales onto their lush tarmac are always inspiring (though I know the traffic density and rurality is Scotland, plus the hills make it unbeatable)!

I am sure on the back roads the Scooby is superior to BM, certainly in terms of achievable pace and for ease of driving, but there in lies their Achilles heel, they can be driven quickly by most people. The RWD of the Beemer takes many tens of thousands to master, an experience which is truly rewarding (aside from the harshness of firm suspension and large alloys on beaten up B roads)!
