N51 has lower compression ratio. Hence why n51 have a 3 stage manifold.

So if you have an n51 the only thing you could do is like a tune and possibly headers and intake?

Intakes for this engine are useless I learned that the hard way K&N drop in filter is your best bet intake wise, or euro intake.

I think AA or EuroCharged tune works on n51 too. Perhaos even OE tuning if they are reliable & in business
Evolve tune may work too( to be determined by them soon)

n51 stands to benefit the most from headers and/or no Secondary cat & different muffler

You just contradicted yourself and I gained some Torque from my aFe sealed intake.

Yes AA Stage 2 works for the n51.

So can anyone confirm that if you bought just the shell of the intake manifold all you need to complete the swap is the adjuster units, gasket values, vent hose, and screws?

You're correct. The only issue that may arise is the oil separator line that runs into the back of the intake manifold. Some of them have a single inlet and others have two. If your car has the different version, you'll need to hit up the dealer and get the correct hose. (You could maybe custom make one, but for time I'd just go buy one)

Only the following for 328i
adjuster units, gaskets, and screws

Vent hose stuff is a fail safe purchase.

Looks like I owe you a HUGE thanks you!!! Lol searched up the VIN and looks like I have a N51!! You saved me loads of trouble. Probably should have started with that first. well, lesson learned

But now that I am aware that I have a n51, Performance wise what can I do to still get a good gain? can I even achieve this since I own a N51?

If so would it be like headers + AA tune?

someone please chime in

Didn't i tell you to look up your vin in a different thread? lol But if I were you I would get the AA tune. It's the easiest to do and creates the biggest difference. And from there decide if you need headers.

Crappy open aFe intake. When I put my stock box back on I could feel the car was running better so I just got a K&N drop in filter.

I meant after market intakes! But I guess I just chose the wrong one. I had aFe's open stage 2, I would have picked up their closed box, but I found it a little pricey. Was it worth it to you?

Uhmmm n51 has a 3 staged intake no? It has the exact same part number as a 330i and I've heard it from another member as well. I forgot who though

Then why go looking for a new one ? O.o why not just use the one currently on your car and just go for a tune and the other basic bolt ons instead of buying another one for 400+ dollars? If you're wondering why I'm asking this, I only read your original post/ thread starter. I didn't look into the other pages. I was once searching for the same thing until another member told me that we had it already. If you wanna try another "route" for power, try nitrous injection
Some people say its cheating but hey, we have about the weakest motor out of all the lci and pre lci models in e9x's (besides the 320 and other euro/over seas models). Not to mention, 335s and other n54/55s alike have turbo and all the M cars in e9x generations(such as e60 m5, e63 m6s) have v8s or v10s. Just a line of thought..
Another amazing upgrade you might want to consider is a quaife LSD. Its not really along the lines of "adding" power, its more along the lines of laying that power down where it should be, to the wheels which in term will make your car faster since you're not losing precious power to the tranny/ drivetrain

Regardless of the OP outcome this thread has a lot of great info.

OP good luck on your tuning path. Pls PM me what Gavin tell you regarding headers, i hear they are at low stock and may not continue to make them

Ohhh I gotcha lol
The headers... you might wanna get those asap. If I remembered correctly, he only has 1 set left! The its bye bye forever (sucks even though I think it should be more mass productions of it. At least 20 or 30 sets more for us other people who are broke right now lol)
