Ah .... it's all coming back to me.

Tidying up I found my old PS1 GT2 game disc. Popped it into my PS3.

Graphics are archaic by next gen standards - but, oh my, that gameplay simply oozes out. Power drifting some ludicrously turboed Japanese car right on the ragged edge, blitzing through the city streets and race tracks. Magical and not been matched by any subsequent GT version. Takes me back over 10 years.

Also found my "Need For Speed" (1st version with great Alpine circuit and comedy crashes) and a Tomb Raider.

There goes the weekend.

Grindlewald is a blast ... Very distinct flavour to all the cars, and great engine notes. Great the way the cars would squirm and buck.

But look at the new graphics ... if only the gameplay is back. The online demo I tried was pants.

Love Gran Turismo. yeah the demo I downloaded sucked but I heard prologue was better. I put my reserve in for the GT5 limited edition which was $99 last week.

I think the newer prettier looking games have lost something. I still remember the first TOCCA series very fondly

Will GT5 support online racing. I use Grid, which is quite good, but wonder if theres anything better out there.

It'd be complete suicide for Sony if it didn't in this day and age.

The Forza thingy is X-Box only by the look of it, and I have a PS3. Any other good on-line racing games for PS3 ??

Lost six months of my life to GT and GT2

Grindlewald and the RUF 911 were my favourite combinations.

I was having a conversation with a friend only last night about a related subject;
he wants a new console (has PS2 and Wii) and asked me if he should go for xBox or PS3 (as I have both).

Given that I got my PS3 three years ago because GT5 was on the cusp of being launched (delays now stretch over 3 years) and almost every time I turn the thing on it requires an update I had to recommend the xBox.

Added to that, Forza is abso-bloody-lutely fantastic.
Graphics, sound, gameplay, physics engine - everything is top notch.

On-line game play is also very, very good and it just served to highlight how awful the online gameplay of GT5 prologue was - they need to sort that out before the lanuch of GT5 proper.

My only disappointment with Forza (and this is where GT2 comes in) is the 'selection of tracks; in forza, other than a couple of obvious ones (Nurburgring, for example) there aren't many tracks that I particularly 'engage' with.

However, the early GT games - Grand Valley/Grand valley East section, Autumn ring, Seattle etc were fantastic, I really liked those.

Fingers crossed Forza 4 offers a greater selection of race tracks.

That said, I know I'm going to end up buying GT5 just so I can race the top gear circuit (yes, that's on there...)

I could have written that myself

That said - do you not LOVE Maple Valley?

Anyone else remember this...

....note the original silverstone woodcote at 2:00....

Really clever stuff for the time - the BBC B had such limited memory the sky actually contained part of the code - and cleverly only a small middle horizonal slice of the screen actually shows the "moving parts" of the game. Basic, but it was the beginnings of proper physics in racing games and had excellent gameplay.
