Buying my first ever diesel car!!

Combination of my general tendancy to get bored with cars, the significant increase in annual mileage with my new job and the fact my wife really didn't like the DSG in the Scirocco (she won't drive it!), I have decided to trade the VW after 10 months - really enjoyed the car and it was an itch I had to scratch.

Replacement will be picked up on Wed.

Few clues:

- FWD
- 3 door-hatch
- 0-62 in 7.7 seconds
- c. 400 torques
- mates threatening to buy me a pipe and slippers
- I'm getting about a grand cash back on the Roc for a 59 Plate model (and will save myself a reasonable amount in running costs which is good whilst still in start-up mode in the business)

A few clappy emoticons for the first correct guess!

John

Clearly, too many clues!!! This forum is a very knowledgeable place!.

Will be a different experience for me, for sure, but I'm looking forward to picking it up. The good thing is that I will be able to get occasional use of the A4 2.0TFSI Quattro (which is a pretty fun car to drive despite its functional form!) as I have gone for a manual and Fi will be happy to drive it.

I had a C30, and LOVED it! Mine was the petrol but beautiful! So smooth and the seats (r-design) are incredible... Loved the interior too...and the stereo

Doesn't drive as well as the Scirocco though, and there is a little too much power through the front wheels IMO - it likes it's torque steer

Cheers CHG.

I'm getting an R-Design (obviously!) and the seats was one of the big selling points for me - way more comfortable than the leather sports seats in the Scirocco (the most uncomfortable car I've owned on longer journeys).

Most of my driving is motorway and A-roads so a torquey diesel makes sense really! (my wife reckons I'll be back in a petrol in 6 months!!).

I really like these - look good, go well, only 180bhp/many ft-lbs through the front wheels put me off.

I know what you're saying. I just started to think that as I sit on the motorway commuting and on business trips I just wasn't getting the best of the Scirocco and because of the mileasge I was putting on it I was reluctant to take it out for weekend B-road blasts (with the flappy padals etc).

Well I'd rather have the C30 anyway!

Definitely look good too - that R Design kit is just right IMO. Better than most other OEM "sports" kits around.

nice choice. Your clues made it too easy though!

I like the r-design stuff. Really fancied the r-design X60 for the missus but since the local dealer shut I dismissed it due to the 45min journey to the next nearest.

Hi Steve. They are not doing the D5 in the C30 anymore - they have introduced two new engines - D3 and D4 (I think the same engine in different levels of tune). Only a handful of manual nearly new D5's about. I thought about new but was told that a D4 would not arrive until......next MARCH!!

From a financial point of view, the nearly new route makes more sense just now. The Scirocco only dropped £2.5k from what I paid for it (bought it privately at c.3 months old) - so £250 dep'n per month and £15,000 miles you can't argue with. Also not needed to service it yet and it just about needs new tyres. An inexpensive car for me all in all!

Combination of the DSG gearbox ("too jerky"), horrendous rear visability and no parking sensors. She LOVES her A4 Avant so I think she has not tried hard enough to get used to the Scirocco!

She has a point on the jerky comment - when you put the car in R it does jolt when you put the foot on the pedal compared to a manual - get used to it real quick if you give it a chance though!

I have tried to point out that the rear windscreen is the back of the car.....visibility is really rubbish though in the Scirocco!
