WTCC widebody COMPLETE! We could not be happier with the end result. What became obvious was just how much added width the WTCC kit provides. For reference, that super sunk in rear tire that looks like a bicycle wheel is actually a 295 width R888R and it’s nowhere close to the strut on the inside #roomfordayssss #timeforE88s

BBS Motorsports came thru YUUUUUGE for us on two daying a set of wheels to test fit! Fronts are spot on, rears need to come in about a 1/2 inch.

We did a quick shoot showing off the new gold BBS E88 during the golden hour!

And we had some fun smoking up the place (unfortunately not from burnouts... but with the help of some smoke grenades and a bunch of trial and error )

Sorry if this has been covered. Any ducting to cool the brakes? Is that what the headlights are for? Could you not just duct from the back of the dual oil coolers?

No that’s a great question! So the headlight ducting can be used for cold air intake/better under hood cooling or for the brakes. That said, we’ve been advised by a few racing experts that ducting the brakes with our StopTech Trophy BBK may do more harm than good - as it may super cool the brakes too much in the straights that they may not only could lose needed heat (some heat is good) but could potentially warp the rotors. All that being said, we still have the normal headlights so we may or may not run the ducted headlights.

I don’t have the final sizes yet. BBS Motorsports sent these to test fit and check clearances. Offset is a little off, so we’re going to have BBS Motorsports make some adjustments to the offset and rim width before we land on a final number.

By the time we’re done, I’d imagine we’ll be running close to a 10.5” front + 285 width racing slick and a 12” rear + 325 width slick. Offset TBD.

E90 WTCC Widebody Front Wheel Fitment Pre-LCI

I’ve had a number of people ask about size/offset/fitment/etc. with these new E88’s. And I don’t believe anyone has gotten into the weeds as it relates to the WTCC widebody and proper wheel fitment. This may not be too relevant for most of you, but for those going down the WTCC route, I’m going to geek out on the details for the FRONT setup for these folks.

TLDR version: with a WTCC widebody kit on a PRE-LCI 335 (LCI’s have different front offset since their hubs are 8mm further out), the car is happy to fit a 10.5” wide rim with a 285 or 295 tire and an offset between +3.5 to -1.5 (Our BBS E88 comes in a +3.5). That said, stay within these parameters and your car will happily fit it under a WTCC widebody.

More in the weeds: in Motorsports circles, the general guideline of clearance needed between the tire/wheel and suspension is to have at least two credit cards worth of clearance. The tire moves where it contacts the road, not much/if at all on the top side of the wheel. That said our 18” x 10.5” wide setup with the +3.5 offset looks like this with a 285 Hoosier R7 (5 credit cards of clearance). Note: we are running a 2.25” spring, pretty standard stuff on MCS and JRZ suspension.

Unfortunately I don’t have a photo of the exterior with this setup but this offset on the car provides some excellent fender clearance and even has a slightly sunk look (but still looks REALLY good) which is a plus for aero.

If we were to run a 295 tire, we would add a 5mm spacer bringing the offset to -1.5 to gain a little more clearance on the suspension. From a “looks” standpoint, this offset looked the best from the outside since its slightly sunk but looks just like you’d expect on a race car. Here is the clearance you get on the inside. Even more room for for activities!

We’re still dialing in the rear wheel setup, will have more to report shortly on that (let’s just say that you can easily fit a 335 back there and both LCI and pre-LCI e90’s have the same rear offset).

It’s a step back in the build thread, but here’s a walk around of how she looked the day we got her back from the body shop with the new WTCC widebody and the skinny looking 10.5” wide Apex wheels wrapped in 275 front and 295 rear R888R’s. They have gobs of room left!!! As you can see in the posts above, we are able to easily fit a 285 front and 335 rear Hoosier slick on our final wheels, the gold BBS E88’s.
