Yah, I remember seeing this. Do you guys remember a few years ago on the Firestone tires that lost it's tread even on new tires?
I usually change my tires at 5 years, no matter what. |

Thanks a lot for posting this information. I've two 2007 cars (a Lexus and a BMW), and the tires that were factory installed were both within a few weeks of the vehicle build date. However, it will be really useful knowing how to read the build date when checking replacement tires in the future.

This is not new in the tire industry and manufactures been selling 4 yrs or older tires as new to us all along. As for myself, I always replace the tires no more than driving after 5 yrs regardless just to be safe. Especially for those, incl myself who store their tires in the uninsulated garage. The bitter winter cold temp would shorten their life span a yr or 2.

Pffaf Audi sold me a set of 4 years old Pirelli 240 winter tires once and I used them for 4 winters on my A6 Quattro before I learnt about the time limit issue. Now they've been off the car for two years and at 10 years old, they are hard as a rock, much like hockey pucks. They make perfect means for committing suicide.
