It doesn't hurt to try a USB map update.

I have a 2009 E90 330d (AU spec) with a production date of 2009-09-25. It also lacks the 'tick' on screen and has never had a firmware upgrade (I've owned the car since new).

I've been able to update the maps using USB twice, in 2013 and 2019.
