2011 335d Cooling Fans Running for a While After Turning Off Ignition

Hey Folks! Have only had this car for a couple of months, but just noticed this for the first time. Did some forum searches and some have noted this is "normal" behavior and others suggested there may be an impending problem with the AC compressor.

I live in Phoenix, but temps are mild this time of year (mid 50's when I took it out this morning). Prior this this happening, I'd driven the car about 2-3 miles and stopped for about 10 minutes. No fans running when I turned the car off. I then drove another mile or two and stopped for 15-20 minutes. Again, no fans running when car was turned off. I then returned home driving about 3-4 miles. No excessive speeds or anything abnormal about the drive (maybe went a max of 50+ mph in different spots). However, when I got home and turned off the engine, the cooling fans continued to blow. I let them run for 5+ minutes, then decided to start the car, let it run for 15-20 seconds and turned it off. Fans stopped. No warnings of any kind on the instrument panel.

I've never experienced this behavior before and I've certainly taken it on longer, more spirited rides (e.g., I drove it 350+ miles from SoCal to PHX with one stop) and plenty of other 20-30 mile runs around the city.

I'm not overly concerned, but would appreciate any suggestions of things to look out for in case this is a warning of something ugly to come...

Car started a regen cycle while it was running before it was turned off. Fans stay on to blow the heat off the DPF, bmw was worried about fire or melting issues.

Thx for the feedback. Out of curiosity, how long should that typically last? It kind of bugs me out walking away from the car in the garage with the fans just blowing like that...

Kinda depends, I've never really searched for information on how long it lasts, but I remember mine doing in for like 10 minutes one time. Drove me crazy thinking my battery was going to run dead.

I don't have that problem anymore though.

I've seen it last at least 10 minutes.
