N47 timing chain recall

Not in here as much these days but had a quick squint through the recent posts and haven't seen this mentioned yet,so thought would make folk aware...
There's now a blanket QE of n47 timing chain and tensioner.
I'm not sure if customers are being mailed or not but we did our first during the week.basically tensioner is checked first and if out of spec then chain and tensioner etc is replaced. If tensioner is under a certain tolerance then only that is replaced without chain.Hope this helps.

Would like mine checked but being 2011 with 45k on the clock I think they might be reluctant

Just spoken with Elms Bedford who confirm they'd need to book in for investigation. Got mine provisionally booked in for a few weeks time..

I wonder why it's taken BMW all this time to offer an inspection to all N47 cars in light of failures?

I had mine replaced a couple weeks back under AUC warranty as I complained about excessive noise. Bill came to just shy of £3500

Does this now mean that any failure related to the timing chain on N47's is covered by warranty, or is the age/mileage of the vehicle relevant? Seems a little vague.

The QE will be a preventative measure. If anyone has suspected chain issues then this should be the answer.

This is good news for many it may have come a little late, its as we know a "well documented issue" many have paid thousands to have this issue sorted I suspect as the recall is from X date therefore people who've had the rectification work carried out already to keep a car on the road "that shouldn't of had the issue in the first place given where BMW had located the chain and guides in the first place" will feel somewhat aggrieved with this turn of events.

Glad they've come to the table though and opened the door to this issue.

How long ago did this 'recall' or what ever its classed as come alight? Only reason I ask is I have an insured warranty with bmw and 250 excess for the timing chain to be replaced around the 14th of this month

Is it only applicable to E9x, or any N47 in E8x, F10?

Thanks for sharing.

Yes they will check and apply the QE to you're car once it is in the dealership.
