Man that's a bummer. For what you have going on,the log looks clean. Would you say the cold start and idle problem was resolved with shoup?

yes, cold start and idle is smooth - No stalling

Yeah me too. It is a bit discouraging though because of the miles on my car - 152k. If it is rod bearings, last thing I want to do is go and spend another $1500 or whatever in maintenance when I could put that towards a new car that comes with a warranty.

I will find out tomorrow if I have any metallics in my oil filter.

The car is running fine on this current tune with minimal corrections. I can just leave it at that until I get a new car later this year.

Hey guys, sorry to break back to the subject and title of the thread, but also not sorry.

I was just having this conversation with someone else in the DMs.

Here was my message:

"I managed to make a bit of progress with this.

I have changed both my injection timing AND my injection pressures to stop the weird idle fluctuations AND stall on start.

Here's the deal.
I disabled these codes
00102A01
00102A22
00108001
00108010
00108932
00120308
0010BA49
00CDA426

I also changed injection timing to something like this (haven't made changes between "cold" and "warm")

I adjusted the FUEL PRESSURE to be lower than I had been previously been using, especially at idle.

Lastly, I made sure that VANOS was running a little bit differently, such that the change in pressure and "end of injection" ends at the right time relative to the valvetrain.

After I pulled out all these stops, I was essentially 90% of the way there, with the exception of the MAF Check Engine Light still on, no matter what. I still can't delete the code or I get the continuous piss poor running.... but I think this will take a deeper dive into the BIN in general for procedures.

I HOPE that helps man! Let me know what you find and if you need any help with my scaling / byte addresses / etc."

Giving everyone an update on my tuning process. Picking up a 2020 Audi SQ5 Prestige on Saturday. That is my solution to tuning these cars. Hope this helps anyone else having problems lol

Nah in all seriousness, there may just be something mechanically weird with my 335. David shared my tune with others and it ran perfect. A really good deal on a 2020 SQ5 Prestige came up and I jumped on it. I still recommend him for anyone else looking to tune their car. I will miss the 335 but I am really looking forward to getting back into an Audi, something much newer and less headaches.

Ah, very cool. Good luck with the new car!!

Tuning is very much designed for "tinkerers" (aka, people who are both WILLING and ABLE to blow up their car and still be okay).

So, I can definitely respect your approach and wish ya all the luck! beautiful car!

I have started the process with a new tuner. I will give the name after it's done to avoid any conflict of interest. But for now all I can say is I'm on revision one, and the idle is fine. Seems the only one who can't tune an n55e with upgraded turbo is wedge.

Everyone talks so highly of Wedge, but they left me very disappointed
Any update...Have you fixed your car? I'm working with Wedge now on my 2011 n55e and have crazy rough surging idle with neg fuel trims.

How's you car now? I'm having similar issues with Wedge

The car is great since getting the wedge tune off of it. I am almost done with my new tuner. I will be posting logs, log dynos and revealing the name of my new tuner soon, once we're done. For now I can say, the same car, same fuel blend, same road and I'm already at about 60 more horsepower than wedge, about 80 more ftlbs of torque and the car starts and idles like a dream.

In my opinion, you should just accept it as a loss and move on to a new tuner. Everyone in this thread has been straight ripped off.

Seems as though problems are becoming commonplace, across multiple platforms.

Just curious how many revisions did wedge make for you and how long after you bought the tune did they stop replying to your emails?

It was only 6 revisions for the "final" E30 map. I did get a couple more revisions of him trying to fix the cold start and stalling. I don't remember when he stopped replying, but I can tell you I got ahold of his boss ken about it and he was a complete tool about it. He even mentioned his "attorney" about me posting my experience here saying I was slandering his company. I still have the emails.

After that he sent another revision, that I didn't dare even flash to my car. Once I made someone mad that has the ability to grenade your motor, I was paranoid about putting it on my car.

I'm just going to post this up now even though we're not done yet. It may be a while before we get finished, as my job schedule only allows me to usually get one revision a week. I'll still post back with who is doing this tune once we're finished. Same road, same fuel. Only difference on the car is I changed plugs from stock Bosch to ngk at .020. The numbers speak for themselves, the car feels great. I'm very impressed.

Pureboost is the tuner I went with for the results I posted above. We ended up with that revision being the final. Who better to tune a German car, than a German!

Here are some cold start logs

Somewhat old POST reply. Sorry

2012 135i w/N55B30a

"1st Gen" N55 motor, full-bolt on including a Kinugawa Stg3 roller-bearing PWG turbo.

71000 miles

Tuned by Stephen at Wedge. Car is making 402hp on E30 corn, at sea level. LOVE it. Tune has been on the car since winter, and reliable, so I didn't think it was that.

I have cold start turned OFF.

Car started doing this start, run, die thing about a month ago. Especially frustrating if I try to get going to soon, because it makes the DCT act up causing car to rev, lurch, rev, die, etc.

I HATE being hard on the car, so in typical BMW fashion, I started throwing parts at it over the weekend. New FCP HPFP (probably due anyway, and now I have a spare for my E92 335). Replaced the Walbro 274 in the PR bucket JIC (That's probably good too) and made a few fuel line upgrades/changes.

Car still acting up, causing me to think that I needed to remove the Radium fuel filter (not the easiest thing) and give it a clean...or else the OE regulator assembly is causing the FP to bleed down and I'll need a new one. Again, not a thrilling service to do. Only other thing could have been an electrical issue. Not fun to diag either. Also, car runs a treat once it's warmed up, and doesn't act up again until morning, so I wasn't sure what was going on.

THEN, in buttoning up the HPFP install, I realized I had A STRIPPED THROTTLE BODY TO MANIFOLD BOLT. Not sure if I did it (God knows I've had the car apart enough), or if I just missed it. I've now got a BMP manifold on order (didn't really want to add the weight to the front end, but I don't want to strip this again), and in the meantime, I went out this morning, and ran the screw back in with a thick zip-tie to take up some space in the stripped screw-hole, enough to be able to re-torque the screw.

Voila!!! Problem fixed! Idle no longer hunts.

May not work for you, but it's worth a look, as well as any other boost leak spots.
