Hi all, I was hoping someone could shed some light on this issue.
I recently replaced a broken gear selector valve on my e90. Included with the replace the were any gaskets related to dropping the transmission pan, as well as, filter and fluid replacement. Upon reassembly I noticed my car would now make a sound similar to a loose chain and a whining sound (That's the best way I can describe it). This is mostly heard from take off to 3rd gear. In addition, 2nd to 3rd is a bit choppy. Like as if the car has too much power and wants to skip to the next gear at moderate to high RPM's. Any insight would be extremely appreciated. Thanks! Edit: here is a video of the sound. It can be heard at 8s

Questions and a thought.
1) where was the work performed? 2) what tranny oil did you use? 3) did they do a full adaption reset? 4) what was the issue that you were experiencing before the work? DN |

I did the work 2 weeks ago I used Dexron VI as recommended by my local BMW parts dealer I did the adaptive reset The reason or issue leading to the required work was that the gear selector valve snapped. I lost reverse initially, then the complete inability to put the car in gear. I followed a DIY in the forums to complete the work. The issue I noticed immediately was the "loose chain-like" sound. In lower gears and moving in reverse. Almost like a grinding/whining sound. I'm thinking of dropping the pan again to re-inspect. I will say the car seems to move faster if that is possible since the work was done. At the same time, I changed the oil filter housing gasket, due to a leak. But, this should be unrelated to the issues I am hearing now. Any thoughts?

Hi there! I hope the OP sees this. I recently had my gear selector valve break on my e90 328xi. After a horrible experience trying to get everything done quickly and properly, I’m wondering if you mind posting a step by step for your diy? I did it myself too and I am worried that I may do something wrong, mainly in regards to the filling procedure as I’ve already got the new valve in, and valve body is screwed back in place (I only dropped slightly so I could slide new part in) And did you also switch through gears when filling after starting vehicle? I’ve read posts that include that and some that do not.
Thanks so much!! -A Last edited by Dreae90; 08-10-2022 at 10:26 PM.. Reason: Taking name |
