325i weakened after transmission fluid change

Hello all,

For years my 2006 325i jerked forward when I came to a complete stop.

I took my chances and replaced the filter, seals, and changed the trans fluid since I don't remember I ever flushed it before. The work was done by a local mechanic.

That did not fix the jerk problem.

But I also noticed that the car got weaker. No power at 1st gear like it used to be.

Could a fluid change cause damage to the internals of the transmission? It shifts okay, but not as powerful as before when accelerating from a stop or low speed.

Thanks for your replies

Do you have the ZF or GM transmission?

If it's the ZF, the solenoids should be replaced at the same time.

I think the mechanic messed it up. There may be pressure leaks between the valve body and transmission if the reinstall when wrong.

The type of fluid and fluid level are two things to verify first. If it is the ZF 6HP then the filter is integrated into the pan. Was the filter/fluid pan genuine?

Should be a ZF6. Are you sure the fluid level is correct?

Thanks for all replies. I bought the OEM ZF 6HP filter, seals and oil kit from FCP Euro. Mechanic said he used most of the 7 quarts of oil.

I saw couple of YouTube videos on replacing the solenoids but they don't say if it fixed the jerk problem, so I hesitated.

Anyways, I took it to another mechanic and he reset the transmission learnings. That fixed the jerk issue for about 3 days, but it came back.

I can feel that 1st gear is not smoothly shifting to 2nd gear. Other gears are fine.

Should I take the risk and replace the solenoids?

Thanks for you advice.

It will more than likely be a worn valve body. Do some research on the Sonnax zip kit. They are apparently very good and fix the issue you have.

Hello NZE90, is this better than buying the solenoid kit from FCP Euro?

Sonnax Zip Kit doesn't include solenoids. Two different things.
