Is 15-20 seconds normal for an iDrive boot time?

Or is this longer than normal?

Normal for me.
I've noticed that it will boot in 20sec. or so, but when I push the speak button, sometimes it takes almost a minute before it will accept voice commands.
Kinda strange.

I've not timed mine but that seems a bit long to me...maybe more like 5 to 10 seconds for mine...

It takes about 10 seconds after the door is unlocked. Now that depends on whether or not you are using CA to get in, or simply using the FOB.

When I unlock the doors via the FOB, pretty much when I start the car, it's ready to go....

After I took my car to the dealer and they gave me a software update, I have no delays with iDrive anymore. It's almost instant. Even the cd plays as soon as I put the fob in. It used to take forever to load.

No delays with my iDrive once I pop the remote in the slot and activate the electrics. Just a second or 3, that's all.

iDrive starts to boot from the time you unlock the door or the boot.

So if you don't use CA, you can reduce the time you wait by unlocking as you approach the vehicle.

And 15 seconds is probably average.
