What i had thought about was to buy a extra OEM MAF housing/air box lid and cutting it right when starts to get flat and rig a oval intake/filter to that.
That way you can keep the OEM MAF housing and get a cone/oval filter there

(HAI) - hot air intake.
cold is so overrated.

Never really looked at the airbox... But Isn't it possible to do a Mr. 5 modification to the N55 airbox? Instead of getting rid of the stock box, add an additional hose/filter to the OEM box? Then you wouldn't really need to worry about where the sensors are located, because it would all still be stockish (might not be a word, but deal with it)...

Well it would be more beneficial for one of the e9x members to try and do this... My airbox is slightly different on the E70 compared to yours. (E70 airbox is a little smaller than E90's). I will probably try this after I see a successful result from an E9x first though... SO who's gonna be the test subject?

The position of the MAF doesnt matter if its turned to the side, facing up or upside down. Its going to get the same exact reading since the air has a straight shot through the tube in this particular application. Now if there were a bend directly before the MAF then position of the MAF would be critical.

If you guys are wondering what it sounds like. Go out to your car, pop the hood, unclip the upper air box lid remove the air filter, leave the lid unclipped, start and rev your engine. This will give you a good indication of what it sounds like. DO NOT DRIVE the car with no air filter though! lol Just start and rev.

yeah it is bs. the sensor is still going to read the density of the air or whatever the hell is does. just gotta make sure there are no leaks in the intake and everything will be fine. including the MAF housing

^ Would love to hear some sound clips and video clips as well...

Hmm... 400 for the AFE, 400 for the Injen, or 400 for the Stock box and do an Mr. 5 mod to it... What is a man to do? (of course their is no guarantee the Injen or AFE will work with the X5, although everything up until the stock box is the same).
