I have no personal experience, but I have this place bookmarked in case I needany CCC/CIC repairs: Hi-Tech Electronic Services in Van Nuys. I read a lot of good things about them.

Just leave the old broken one in place and run a new one.

Here's a CIC retrofit DIY, you can see him start to run the cable at 13:50. Here's another way to do it starting at 6:50.
