Okay, at least one positive for replacing the solenoids. I wonder if these solenoids are sticky and not supplying oil to the Vanos adjusters if this causes extra wear or causes these units to fail? Just a thought.

Thanks for the update. Im leaning that way myself. Just would love it to throw a code before I drop that type of money.

My car's niggles are also without codes to work on, so I have already gambled at replacing various parts, but admittedly, not the Vanos solenoids just yet.

Well, it's going to be a while before I can justify replacing them - first want to try my hand at taking live data logs to see what is going on. But I will always update this forum regarding my battles to get this 100% the way it is supposed to be.

I hear ya. I hear all the time about "just put x or y on it" until I know for certain I would rather keep my money in my pocket instead of just throwing parts at the issue.

And the dealers work like this too - most of the time they are just guessing and just have you throw new parts at the problem. I wouldn't mind if it at least fixed the problem. But it's getting a bit annoying now.

Alot of times in my experience at least the "techs" at dealerships are no better than some "shade tree diy guys" on the weekends. Can you follow the instruction book? Good!

Sadly yes. Also I think it comes down to the limited time that they have to actually work on the cars since they have to turn around as many cars as possible.

That could be true as well.
