06 330i- replaced radio, now underpowered speakers?

Hi everyone,

I have an 06 330i that had a fading radio display. I swapped it out with a newer radio from a 2011 car with Logic 7. I made sure the radio was coded for the same options my car has, as my car also has Logic 7. Now, I've noticed 2 things:

1. The radio seems to be outputting less power. Before the swap, you could really feel the under seat subs working especially when bass was turned up. Now, the bass response seems weaker. Radio works just fine, all options work.

2. My radio before the swap did NOT have a Logic 7 option- it had two options for concert hall and theater. Now, there is an option for Logic 7, but no options for concert hall and theater. The equalizer option is still there as before.

Does anyone have an idea or a similar experience with a radio swap and can tell me what went wrong here?

TL;DR: Speakers feel underpowered after radio swap, and I lost concert hall and theater settings

thank you in advance

Was the radio coded from the default setting's in the
CAS/FRM on your car?
Or was it pre coded in somewhere else?

You would need to read the Radio file from each unit and
compare them for starters.

Might have been easier to just fix the display although the newer
radio's have HD Fm.

Since Logic 7 is fiber optic input to the amp it's not a matter of power
its a matter of matching programming and hardware.

Re code defaults to whatever you replaced. All will be back to normal.

Thanks for your response! I looked into the display repair, and parts were 2x the price of the new radio (can't beat a $50 pick and pull find!) I coded the radio options to match in NCSExpert. Everything works as it should, even the updated door chime. The newer radio I installed was from a 2011 car with Logic 7, so the hardware should be identical. The only difference I noticed between the radios was the fuse in the back- on the older radio, it was a 15 amp, on the new one, it is a 10 amp. Thank you for the idea to check the 2rad files, I didn't even think of that, I will check the two and report back.

Does this mean that even though I coded the radio to match the options on my car, it will default back to whatever settings it shipped with when it was brand new??

I didn't read what you did, but I know you need to default code it first. Blank man file. Then tinker with it.

That may be where my problem is, I coded over whatever NCSexpert read from the settings on the radio in the RAD2 file, I did not default code it. I'll give that a go too, thank you for the assist!

Default coding is not what it sounds like there is no blank file
the settings of your car from the factory are stored in the CAS/FRM
and can be written back to a new module upon replacement of the
physical module.

They added some stuff to the Radio's over the years .
07 they addied HD Fm and there are some radio's that have satalite
and usb built in . In Europe they have some with DAB .
They even had some there that don't have Most bus circuits.

Also if you read the Rad files there are what appear to be some eq settings
for chassis and model type.

Same scenario - coding requirements?

Hi,

I'm doing the same thing this member did, though I didn't see how it ultimately turned out for him. One question - I have NSCExpert on a PC and a USB OBDC connection. Do I need more that that to code this radio to my car? Currently has Pro radio (pre-lci, pre-hd) with aux-in and bluetooth. New radio will have logic 7 and more power and a new display....

Do I need ICOM A and B connectivity? Does anyone know if there's a step-by-step on how to code this? I know this sound lame, but I don't want to brick my baby....

Thank you!

Cars made after 3/07 need icom to code Most Bus modules is the
common knowledge at the coding sub forum.

When replacing Logic 7 amps on later cars people mention they have to
update the firmware in the Logic 7 amp to get it to play at all .
I wonder if there is some firmware difference between the head unit
and amp that is causing the problem. It wouldn't play at all if you didn't
have the Logic 7 interface setup somewhat correct.
The Lcd's in the display can be fixed relatively cheaply .

If you truly have logic 7 the signals comes in as a Fiber optic signal that
would mean there is no possibility of a power issue just the wrong digital signal.

Thank you for your response. Much appreciated. Production month on the e90 is 6/2006. Might I be able to code it with only the OBDC to usb cable + NCSExpert?

Car with production dates of up to 3/07 can be coded with K/Dcan cables
it the general knowledge.
The power in amped system's come from the amp.
Later versions of the Logic 7 amp have different firmware
not sure how this plays volume wise with the digital signal
it gets from the various Head Units by year.
But I haven't seen a lot of complaints of this as a common problem.

default coding is whatever NCSexpert finds in the CAS and Frm it's not
blank coding.
Sometimes you will see people buying a Logic 7 amp for one of the later year
models where they have to update the firmware in the Logic 7 amp to get
it to play at all . Maybe there is some relationship between the Firmware
in both the Head Unit and Amp that has to be met to get it to play.

Thank you - I think I may have contacted you via YouTube? I'm looking for someone brave enough to do this coding remotely... I have all the software and cables. Do you know of anyone? I'm in Portland OR. Thank you!

Try the coding and idrive subforum.
There are some threads about Logic 7 amp coding's on there.

You could ask musicarNW they are in your town and know a lot about BMW stereo
as there the best BMW high end stereo shop on the West Coast.
