I attached some pictures of the new interface for you. Actually I like it better than the old. But see for yourself.
The i graphic on the center of the main screen does indeed look nicer!

THe 335 will be my third car with iDrive on it. And to the best of my knowledge, you simply cant ask for it, nor pay for it. You need to have some sort of problem with your computer functions first, such as 'CD Drive keeps spinning' or 'seat belt chime problem'.

iDrive is SOOOO slow cause BMW (or Microsoft) did not design the CCC with a fast enough processor to handle the split screen functions. The NAV system is what seems to bog it down the most, since its always running in the background. A 2004 530i I had, didnt have the nav option, and the iDrive was lightning fast in all functions, (hence no split screen with the smaller 6" screen). Seems like a huge oversight on BMW's part. This is definatley not a 3series problem... its been plaguing BMW for 5 years now, started on the 7er.

Ugh... as discussed numerous times, the OS is not by Microsoft. It's by WindRiver called VxWorks and it is not necessarily processor power that makes it slow. Too much display overhead/memory is certainly a possibility as mentioned on this thread among numerous other things.

you are all wrong.

The navigation PRO system is made by Siemens VDO while the Business version is made by Becker. Both german. And this info is 100% correct.

There is enough room for extra memory or a better processor on the 5 series ccc I can't remember which it was now, but a search on www.e60.net would bring it up again, would interesting to see this get used on the i-drive system.

funkahdafi is it noticeably quicker now with V.25??

Don't feel sorry for me, I'm no "iDrive victim." I love iDrive and would not have a Bimmer without it. I've had two Progman updates thus far and not one of them broke anything. Japanese or German? No contest. I'd rather have one E90 than two, for example, G35s. Or any other Japanese cars for that matter. I've owned several Japanese vehicles, and they were all very well designed and built. But they're no BMW.

Agreed, there is not one Japanese car on the market I would buy at the moment, on the cars that look and feel nice they are crap to drive and the ones that drive alright feel like a peice of shite!!

I also had a 535d msport touring with i-drive and an M3 obviously without, and my wife has a 120d msport without and the i-drive car feels so much more modern to use, I would never buy another BMW with out it again either.

Did I miss something, or does that German Nav enable you to search points of interest by name??

I wasn't able to test this myself but the guy who did said it is VERY noticable and much better. The faster reaction of the system alone would make it worth to upgrade.

Nope, you didn't miss anything. It is a new feature introduced in v25. Very nice! It even let's you chose a radius in which to search in.

Wonder what fun problems the March '07 builds will have. At least these updates will be included.
If you plug in you I-POD the car blows up. Just a minor problem.

So is this the version of i-drive you get if your car hasn't started production yet?

At least you can shut it off with a restart. In my Z4, the chime continues, even if you shut the car off!

You need to walk away from the car and come back in about 15 minutes, and it will turn itself off.

I hope starting now! I just placed my order w/ my dealer, so it isn't even in BMW's system yet. I'm hoping/thinking that I should be all set with this version.

At the risk of sounding stupid, are you searching for Hotels by Name? I thought one of the chief complaints about the iDrive was it lacked searching POI's by Name.

If so, can we expect this feature in US cars build after March 2007?

-Brett

EDIT: Nevermind, I see this was already asked and pointed out above! Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!
