How's your trust with your e90? How far have you driven it?
I have been on the BMW world since my first car.
However, i have always stuck around e46-e90. Current car e90 330i 2006, 140k miles. I have done so many repairs this last 2 months, where i felt confident it would not break on me on a 16 hours drive to San Fran, and 16 back home. Total of 32 hour drive (not including the driving around san fran.) totaling 2,000+ miles. (Wyoming is "home" for now...ignore my cali plates.) Needless to say, the car took it well, no problem at all. What about you? Show off your ride and tell us the longest trip you've had. I trusted my 330i... For once! It didn't let me down! |

I bought a e91 with 101K miles on it.
Less than a month later I drove it from Ohio to California. A year later and it has 130K miles. The only failure it's had was a starter. I zeroed all the maintenance before I left. |

1700 miles over the course of 1 weekend starting Friday and ending late Sunday. Drove great after a complete suspension overhaul!

I go on a long road trip at least once a year.
Bought my 2010 E92 335i brand new and been on many long road trips in the past 8+ years. It's got 99,500+ miles on the ticker and still running like new. Typical short road trips are about 400+ miles round trip, medium about 900+ miles round trip, and the longest was 1,200+ miles round trip (2011 Knoxville Tn). Last year, I did a 860+ mile round trip to Atlanta back (Tampa) and last month I just did 400+ mile business road trip to Jacksonville and back (Tampa). I keep my ride well maintained by a trusted indy BMW mechanic and not once do I think about having issues while on the road. I’m just enjoying the drive and listening to my SIRIUS XM.

Charlotte, NC to LA then back to Charlotte.
4 days each way. Never a question or an issue. There's no point keeping a car which can't be trusted to go when/where you need it to. |

I've done about 50,000 miles (total milage 85,000)and I have 'broken down' as-in, had to call a tow truck - twice.
1. Run-flat failed to run flat at 40mph to get me home. Shredded after 5 miles. Called AAA. 2. Upper radiator hose failed. Pulled over due to overheating warning. Called AAA. |

NYC to Buffalo, NY. 405 miles one way, 800+ miles round trip. Also took the car to Toronto (another 100 miles one way) while in Buffalo. No issues whatsoever. 100% confidence in my car since it's not a N54/N55

I've done about 40,000 miles this year.
The strange ignition/misfire issues (coil packs, crankcase breather, eccentric shaft sensor) have caused great annoyance and nasty oil consumption in remote parts of the country but thankfully haven't left me stranded. The fragile wheels are a big problem, however. I keep a bottle of slime and an inflator in the trunk. I also had a rear spring that cracked. So, you can get just about anywhere you need to go but don't forget your wallet.

My water pump went out once, other than that, it's been extremely reliable. I'm approaching 105k now following the factory maintenance schedule, minus a few exceptions: gearbox and differential fluid, and coolant. There's no change interval on them, so I do a 60k interval for gearbox/diff, and 4-6 years for coolant. I base this on other manufacturer recommendations.

I took a winter road trip few years ago, Seattle to Winter Park (via Rawlins, WY and Steamboat Springs) - 1400 miles there. Another 1200 back via Salt Lake City. Got like 38 mpg in my 335d. Ran most of the way back with my SEL on - checked and it was a SCR system fault which is safe to run with.
Carried a spare tire, as I was running go-flat winter tires. |

I don't remember the interval, but the plastic part gets brittle, is that the component that failed?

2200 miles in two days: Birmingham, AL to Costa Mesa, CA. The car was loaded to the gills. 30mpg for the whole trip, even after extended stretches of 120+mph in West Texas.
I would not hesitate to drive this car any distance at this point. 74500 miles.

Boston to Montreal last summer, zero issues - (didn't even think twice about not having a spare and not running run-flats anymore :P _ haha
Have a 2006 BMW 330xi and I've owned it since about 113k I think. Has 139k now. It has been overall poor to me during ownership. First, the computer fried because it was not sending any signal to one of the cylinders about 1 year ago. That cost me $2,300 to fix and I knew a technician who did it; not the dealership. At the same time, I replaced the eccentric drive sensor as well as my front drive axle because the original had a lot of play in it. Recently, I did brake fluid change, front and rear pads and rotors as well as a recent starter replacement which took me about a month because I broke 2 plastic breather hoses along the way. However, I did save myself about $750 rather than taking it to the shop which quoted me $964. So, I'd say - honestly this is my second E90, but both have really been love/hate. I love the way they drive, but they're getting old in my opinion. First one had NAV system issues and this one does not have NAV so I would have avoided the issue all together and then this one had ECU problems. So, is the drives solid when healthy, sure but I think that it's just tired at this point. I'm hoping to keep it until 180k or even further, but if the cost of ownership keeps on being aggravating on top of ~$2k per year, I'm out of the game and just retiring it or giving it to some college kid who has time for these constant repairs and upkeep.
