Need advice on tires/rims

So I just bought my 2011 335is a few weeks ago and I've been obsessing over the car ever since. The other day I found a nail in the shoulder of my tire...

After doing a bit of research I'm finding that it's not advisable to repair tires with punctures in the shoulder. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Seeing that winter is coming in Alberta, I find myself faced with two options:

1. Put winters on my current rim (19x8 & 19x9). Potential clearance/rubbing issues?
2. Buy a set of winter rims & tires (looking at 17" Rial Solerno + Blizzak tires) From what I've seen on this forum this is a nice/reliable setup.

I appreciate any feedback.
