MHD Flash Fuel Pump Malfunction (MHD kills fuel pump module?)
Hello, I am reaching out for some help. I recently purchased an MHD super license pack for my N54, and I was excited to go ahead and put a tune on the vehicle. I went ahead and pulled up the user manual they have and went ahead and attempted to do my initial setup/write with a Stage 1 OTS tune from MHD. In doing so, I accidentally turned off the ignition (clumsy), and the tune failed and messed up the car. The ECM was not responding, and the car was not cranking or anything. I went ahead and did a stock flash Stage 0 so the MHD was still installed into the ECM. I kept away from the ignition switch just in case, and after about 15 minutes, the flash was successful. I turned off the ignition, waited 30 seconds and turned the car on. The car runs for a few seconds, then a fuel pump malfunction pops on, and the car dies. I thought there must be some issue with MHD and my car, so I went ahead and did a stock flash that removed MHD from the ECM, and it also completed successfully, but the issue is still occurring where the car starts, then a fuel pump malfunction comes on, and the car dies.
I did not have a charger attached, but the car has a basically new AGM platinum battery I monitored the voltage, and it was above 12.5 V the entire time the flashing was underway. I had my phone in aeroplane mode, and I had no issues communicating with MHD. It could have possibly been the fact that I was below a quarter of a tank, so the fuel reserve light was on, causing an issue. I am not sure if anyone else has encountered a similar issue. I will go into some further diagnostic tomorrow as it was nighttime when I decided to flash the car, so I will have to go get my other car from the shop to drive to work (woohoo). I will have to bring some diagnostic tools to take a look at it. As I do not hear the fuel pump clicking with the ignition, I suspect that MHD fried the module. I will have to go more in-depth tomorrow, and I will let you all know my findings. This was a great experience for a first-time MHD user and someone attempting their own tuning. If I bricked the DME, I have a spare MSD81 ECM I can use. |

For a start, there's absolutely no way for MHD to fry your fuel pump.
What are the current and factory ZB numbers that are shown when you read the codes? |

Follow up if anyone else had this issue. There was a code under the EKPM3 module stating Undervoltage. I have two ECMs for my vehicle, so when I swapped the ECM, that corrected the issue. So just a warning, MHD can and will blow your ECM without warning. I will be taking the ECM apart, and I will see what damage it has done. Everything else seemed to be functioning except the power source to the LPFP/EKPM3, so I hope it isn't too difficult of a fix.
