N55 engine cut off while driving
I was pulling into my gym's parking lot this AM and the engine just cut off. If you push the start button while driving it WILL cut the motor off but I know for a fact I didn't push it. The engine just completely cut off and the steering wheel locked up, I'm just glad the breaks still worked otherwise I would have slid into a car in the lot. Once I put the car in park and hit the start button the motor kicked on with no issues.
The minute I got home I immediately scanned the car for error and found the following codes: 29D0 Misfire Cylinder 4: I take it this means the coil or spark plug at cylinder 4 took a hit. 29E0 Fuel Mixture control: ??? No idea what the hell this is talking about. and 343F (no info listed for the code) It also says under all the codes that "Error is not currently present", to me this makes no sense why is it scanning codes that are not present? And no my car is not tuned.. And the car is under warranty so I did make an appointment with the dealer. |

They will probably say, "sorry we cannot replicate the issue but best of luck to you sir at least you know the breaks won't fail as you begin to glide towards a truck, desperately clinging to a steering wheel that won't budge and an engine that pretty much told you to fuck off."
I actually found a thread here with a few people posting about the same issue with their n55 based cars. Last edited by Delta0311; 01-12-2014 at 08:25 AM.. |

So you drove up to a parking lot... Maybe a dumb questions but your engine didn't cut off because of to low revs? Happened to me actually, was in 4th instead of 2nd...

change the cyl 4 coil pack. Also, not sure what mileage you are at, or if you have the tools or knowledge to do so, but changing your spark plugs every 10-15K miles on a modded 335 n55 is a wise thing to do. I had a nagging cyl 3 misfire error and a limp mode before so..... it happens. I changed the coil pack and changed my plugs and have been running strong ever since.
coil pack: http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E92-335...oil/ES2696048/ plugs: http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E92-335...ion/ES2538493/ Torque wrench - 17 ft lb each plug spark plug socket adapter: http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E92-335...ion/ES2561145/ hope this helps. It's a pretty easy job with the rear engine cover being the most fiddly but if you are running the 335 oem stock cross brace - it's really rather simple. hope this info helps. good luck.

After 50k the fun ends and the butt pounding begins. Thank God we're still good, for now at least. What your friends and family think as you role into a BMW dealer out of warranty. Last edited by Delta0311; 01-12-2014 at 04:26 PM.. |

I highly doubt that a faulty spark plug will cause the car to shut off. A bad spark plug or coil will just cause the car to misfire and throw codes. FYI I had my car do the same thing it just randomly turned off when I was driving in slow moving traffic. It did it once a couple months ago and never did it again.

Recall campaign No. 13V-044: Power Supply System. Not sure if that's your cause, my car never cut out, but dealers should know all about this recall. It does say in my recall letter, "...The connection between the positive battery cable and the fuse box can wear over time. If the wear is excessive, then in most cases, this can cause a break in the electrical connection and create a non-starting condition in the vehicle. In certain cases, it can also cause a momentary flickering of the display in the instrument cluster or a momentary (less than 1 second) engine shut down. The electrical system may also be completely interrupted during vehicle operation, and result in engine stalling and a loss of various vehicle systems that could increase the risk of a crash.". Worth a shot. Good luck!

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I really need some help.
I'm having this same issue. However, there's no codes being reported. It just quietly shuts off when slowing down sometimes. Will lose power steering. If I try to start it up again, it starts up without an issue. It's super dangerous driving around with it. Anyone else experiencing this issue and how did you solve it? My mechanics have checked fuel pump, power supply, and even the gas tank. They can't figure this one out. It's a 2011 335i (N55/E93). Last edited by mmille24; 11-01-2018 at 11:48 AM.. |
