HELP: Smoke, Noise and Rough idle after engine swap

Hi folks, looking for your help, hopefully you can steer me in the righ direction as I am in dead-end how to troubleshoot it.

Context: I did an engine swap on my 2006 325i. Instead of rod-knocked N52B25, I installed N52B30 from 2006 330i. Everything went fairly smoothly, in addition I did a bunch of service to the engine (new water pump, thermo, valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, new drive belt and pulley, new sparks, coolant, power steering, oil, tranny oil etc).

When I first started, at first it cranked a long time, then evetually started, but with some odd noises and after a few seconds some smoke from the exaust maniforl area.

I haven’t, but work in progress. Figuring out the coding procedure at the moment.

Any clues on the noise and reason for smoke?
