Agreed. But as far as I'm concerned 0-60 stats are all about marketing and little else.

If you're going to measure the true performance then compare 1/4 mile times and lap times.

As far as 1/4 mile time these cars are really close. the d might get the nod for lap times but even that is too close to call most of the time. Both cars could certainly use a lsd but especially the d with all the torque.

Frankly they're both great cars and each have strengths and weaknesses.

btw, my other car is an E36 M3 so it's not like I'm some sort of diesel head.

Unlike my old drag racing days, I now (15 years or so) prefer road racing at the track. By next year I will definitely taake my 335d on the track at least once just for kicks. Will be an interesting comparison to my M3.

A stock d will do 100mph in the 1/4 mile http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...take_road_test that is fast, but no match for a 335i which will do it in 106 http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...t/specs_page_2

Errr this thread is just like the 535 verses 550 BS that went on and on and on and on, on E60.net (when I had my 545)

that said

If you want a fast car, with a super sweet, super smooth, super fast 6 cylinder engine buy a 335i.

If you want a fast car, with an insane 6 cylinder engine while doing your bit to save the planet and want to give pirus owners heaps (re their planet wrecking batteries, powered by coal burning power stations) buy a 335d

Or you could buy a 335i for yourself and buy an X5d for the wife like I did.

335i versus 335d

I've owned a 335i and two 335d's.

The petrol model is much faster.

The diesel has as much torque as a Corvette stingray so at 60 when you punch it, the acceleration is amazing. You will pull on the 335i but once it gets the rpm's up the horsepower will give the gasser the advantage.

But there is no agreement when it comes to fuel economy.
The diesel is amazing.

335i had a turbo go out at 80k.
First diesel has intake problems at around 90k.
Always buy the sport package, otherwise it feels like a Honda accord.

I thought the 335i was pretty fast but raced it against my 68 Corvette 327 and the vey won.
Was very surprised.

Raced a Tesla 100 once, so embarrassing.

Thinking about a little tuning kit Dinan for the diesel.
Any suggestions?
