I talked to Geico about this when I started the insurance on my new car (2 months ago). For me it was $50/6 months. I'm fairly young, and I financed the car, which might be why its higher for me. The representative told me you have 15,000 miles or 1 year to sign up for this warranty. So I'm waiting until almost 1 year before I add it.

I figure if it breaks down 4 times (w/costs over $250) after your factory warranty is up (I think its this is being really pessimistic too), you spend $1000 on deductible and for me it would be $700 of insurance; that's if I own the car for 8 years. So you can probably spend more money since this examples cost is $1700 altogether, and people are saying they spend $1400 for 100k warranties, but most people don't keep their car for 8 years. Or you an have no major repairs and only spend $700.

There's also a difference in dropping an additional $1400 on the spot. You may also include that in your financing and rates for car loans are around 6.5%.

I've had a Volvo 850 that is 10 years and its only had two $300-400 repairs in its lifetime, the rest was maintenance, and I can tell my E90 is far better built than my trusty Volvo.

And Geico will let you take your car to your BMW dealer. This is part of the agreement in their warranty plan.

What i plan on doing is getting a free break job probably around 35000 miles and then purposly wearing my brakes down right b4 the 50k mark for another free brake job. So that before its time for the third brake job I will be finish paying it off and I can get a new or used car.

985 is the MSRP. So they don't get any surcharges and just charge MSRP for cars and everything else.

I pay $14 per 6 months for the extended warranty from Geico. But it's good to have it!! 7 years 100k miles

Wow- how bad is my dealer trying to rake me on this.... they told me:
Warranty to 6 year/100,000 - $2995.00
Maintenance to 6 year/100,000 - $2295.00 and noted that this is bought up front

I didn't buy but am scheduled to pick up my car this week (it had to be shipped from another dealer) and they wanted to give me this to think about before I get there!
HA! Not good, right?

My dealer asked me if I want to buy ext warranty and ext maintenance (both cover up to 100,000 miles).

ext warranty up to 100,000 miles will cost me $2375
ext maintenance up to 100,000 miles will cost me $1695

Looking at my high milleage ( I am up to 43K in 27 months so the year will not matter since I will get to 100,000 in no time). I have up to 49,999 miles to get the ext warranty from my dealer. Once I hit 50,000 miles no more extension. Need to decide

Can you buy the extended warranty or maintenance from any dealer and then
use it on any dealer? Did anyone have experience with the extended warranty
or maintenance bought from another dealer but took the car to a different one?

When they say 6yrs does that mean your adding 2 yrs to the original 4 yrs that comes with the car? Or is it 6yrs added to the original 4 yrs giving you 10 yrs? If it is only 2 additional yrs then I would skip it because I doubt paying out of pocket would cost 3 grand over two years.

the 2 yrs are added onto the 4 yrs you get at purchase date.

2 more yrs or 100K miles - which ever comes first.

I was going to get the maint service aggreement, yet am thinking of declining.

Any thoughts...?

If you plan to keep your car long, one brake+rotor job will pay off the cost.
I bought the extended maintenance program before price adjustment last year for $985. And I just got the extended warranty from BMW for $1850. (I think it's a good deal given that twinkidneygrill.com charges $2375)
(My mother in-law's ML350 transmission gone bad at 52000 miles, and would've cost her $10,000 if she didn't have the extended warranty....that's what made my purchase)

can you purchase the extended maintenance/warranty months after you purchased the car? or does it have to be done at the same time as when you sign for the vehicle, etc?

No, it can be done later. It just has to be before you hit 50k miles. So anytime up to 49,999 miles.

Hi folks, I want to buy a car. What steps can I do to make it easier to get approved for at least the sum of $35,000? I work for myself and will be claiming $20,000 this year, last year I made like 15,000 because I just started out. Should I have any trouble getting approved for that sum of a car loan? What can I do to make sure I will be easily approved? Thank you so much for any input.
