Anyone have rattling noise from the back
My car is only 2 weeks old (with 1000km on it), and it start having rattling noise coming from the back (Sound like rear - right area).
It just start 3 days ago. Does anyone have this issue? If so , did the dealer fixed it for you? This is my first BMW. and I think is should be a lot better then Honda / Toyota....until I heard this rattling noise.

Is it like a cracking/ticking sound from the rear shelf? I have that too... rattles everytime going over an uneven surface on the road... Quite annoying. I actually asked them to try to fix it last time my car went back for service but I guess they missed it....problem wasn't fixed and wasn't listed on the joblist.

Yup, I have the same one. I think it happens more when it's cold out. It's not consistent either so it would be hard for the dealer to find. I also don't want them taking everything apart only to have something else squeak afterwards.
Has anyone been successful in having the dealer find out what is causing this noise? |

Try folding down the rear seats and then putting them back upright again. Make sure they click. I had a friend sit back there last night and something loud clicked. After that I didn't hear much noice from the back. I have a feeling it might be the rear seat release not being fully clicked in. It must have clicked in when he sat back there.

I have the same problem -- I suspect that this is originating from the center armrest console in the rear seat, possibly the cupholders jiggling around. Most of the time, it's well-behaved but when I hit a bump or drive on rough, uneven surfaces -- it's really loud.
My dealer service guy sat in the car with me on one occaision and guess what? the sound was no where to be heard. That's the worse thing about these rattles -- temperature, weight dependencies make it hard to diagnose. One more thing -- rattles are like a pandora's box -- if you hunt and find one, 2 or 3 more will pop up. I am just going to let them go...

With ~2000 miles, I've got one that sounds like it's coming from the area of the rear parcel shelf.
It happens over moderate to big bumps. I do have fold down seats but everything is secure and "clicked" in place. Anyone getting the sound with fixed (non foldable) rear seats?

do canadian e90s come with the laptop tray? (most of the comments are coming from Canada). If so, then I would imagine that would jiggle a bit. Just a thought.

No laptop trays in Canada. Actually I think I found the source to the rattling. It's the air ducts expanding/contracting. If the climate controls are off, the rattles are gone.

I had the same. I think it is my rear license plate cover. Only screws at top and when I go over bumps it clanks!!

I have been experiencing this noise now for over a month and it is highly annoying. It does definately seem to be coming from the rear shelf somewhere, although it is hard to tell for certain when you are sitting up in the driver seat. One day I need to get my wife to drive while I sit in the back and listen, and hope it does it.
It does happen over bumps sometimes, but I have also heard it when the car is completely stopped/idle at a light. I have not taken it into the dealer since I can't figure out where it is coming from for sure and I don't want them ripping the entire back of the car apart and maybe not even find it.

The sound I am hearing sounds like something hitting the rear windsheild, of course there is nothing visable, so either it is something in the upper centre brake light enclosure, or the back shelf, or it doesn't involve the glass at all and it just sounds like it. Very frustrating.

i was cleaning my back seats today and noticed that the rear seatbelts have a small plastic "button" on the belt that holds the steel end of the clip high off of the seat (hard to explain, just go look)... anyway, when then steel clip shakes on the belt and hits this button it makes a little clicking/rattling sound (go try it, just flick the clip with your finger).... this might be the cause of some of the rear end clicking. i am going to try taping over the plastic button.

I started hearing this same noise from the back yesterday. It was really cold outside. This morning it was fine but car was in the garage all night so it was warmer..
I think BMW NA needs to address this... |
