Question 320d Muffler Delete - Comparison Video

Hi all,

I'm debating doing a rear muffler delete (replacing it with stainless steel piping but leaving the cat, resonators and DPF intact) on my E90 320d after reading the mega-thread of all the other E90 muffler deletes which sound great - http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=109344

I know some people will say no just because it's a diesel, and I am very wary that it may sound like a tractor , so I am trying to avoid that, and may just end up leaving it stock.

The reason I am considering it at all is because I've heard some 320d's on YouTube that sound great with the same mod, but on the flip side I've heard some that sound terrible. I considered buying an aftermarket muffler instead but a lot of the ones I looked at sound just the same as stock to me.

I'm trying to avoid the obnoxiously loud "full straight pipe" style exhaust, and just going for a deeper, more audible tone.

Any opinions on this would be great although I'm hoping for no "but it's a 320d/but it's a diesel" ones

So I went ahead and did it anyway, and I am very happy with the results!

It has a nice deeper growl now, in my opinion. It's not really much louder at all, and in the cabin you can't notice any difference really.

I'm not happy with the tips, but I'm working on that next!

Here's the before-and-after comparison video I made.

Hope this helps someone

Thanks

It's just had the rear muffler/silencer/backbox (whatever you want to call it) removed and replaced with steel piping. It's been remapped also but I doubt this makes much difference to the sound.

Did you weld the exhaust or just use an exhaust clip?? As I’m looking to do the same muffler delete to my car.

It's welded.

Don't use a clamp, it will probably rattle and leak.
