I was wondering If anyone knew if the JB+ increases the water pump speed like how the Dinan Stage 1 does?

I'm debating whether to get a JB+ or not but am wondering what the long term consquences are of running extra boost without extra cooling.

I personally plan on going Dinan (with a better oil cooler) as it looks safer when looking at long term reliability while still providing good HP gains.

Thats because you haven't really done your research. Dollar for dollar, its the worst option out there. Unless your scared about your warranty. Which in that case, Dinan and BMW will fight over who needs to fix the problem if one arises. Theyre becoming less and less friendly towards one another.

With a factory tune water pump speed is indexed by coolant temperature. When temperature goes up then speed goes to 100%, which you can verify with the BT. Even at 100% you can overheat the car if you really try. So it's all just marketing fluff.

Hmmm.

According to BMW's technical papers, water pump speed is also indexed to cylinder head temperature.

AND hotter coolant temperatures occur when you are cruising at low load because this maximizes fuel economy.

At least that's how I understood it.

Heat Management:

The engine control unit of the N54 engine controls the coolant pump according to requirements:

The software in the engine control unit now features a calculation model that can take into account the development of the cylinder head temperature based on load.

In addition to the characteristic map control of the thermostat, the heat management system makes it possible to use various maps for the purpose of controlling the coolant pump. For instance, the engine control unit can adapt the engine temperature to match the current operating situation.

This means that four different temperature ranges can be implemented:
• 108°C ECO mode
• 104°C Normal mode
• 95°C High mode
• 90°C High + map-thermostat mode

The control system aims to set a higher cylinder-head temperature (108°C) if the engine control unit determines ECO (economy) mode based on the engine performance.

The engine is operated with relatively low fuel consumption in this temperature range as the internal friction is reduced.
An increase in temperature therefore favors slower fuel consumption in the low load range.

In HIGH thermostat mode, the driver wishes to utilize the optimum power development of the engine. The cylinder-head temperature is reduced to 90°C for this purpose. This results in improved volumetric efficiency, thus increasing the engine torque.

The engine control unit can now set a certain temperature mode adapted to the respective operating situation. Consequently, it is possible to influence fuel consumption and power output by means of the cooling system.

+1. Dinan has become the worse option. Other than factory reasons i cant see myself getting a Dinan ANYTHING. upgraded oil cooler, tune, intake,exhaust is $6k.

For that you can run a tune (Jb3& BT tool or Procede), intake, DPs, FMIC, and have over $3k left over for exterior mods.
