Need to replace my shocks, got any recommendations?

I have sport suspension on my car. Anyone know of any aftermarket shocks that perform similarly to the stock sport shocks or do most people just replace the stock ones with the same stock shocks? I like the feel of the sport suspension so I'm not really interested in coilovers or a suspension overhaul. I'm looking for a something economical as my first criteria.

Thanks

Most would say B4 (non-sport) or B6 (m-sport) would suit your criteria. B4 has a version for sport suspension as well (half price of a B6).

economical? try these:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/STAGG-4-SHOC...hSzKhq&vxp=mtr

if you have any respect for your car and what it represents from an engineers and drivers perpective, get something a little less... economical.

in my opinion get the bils hd(b6).

Bilstein B6 if you leave the stock sport springs on. Then there are Koni Yellows, adjustable, therefore more expensive. I'd say go for the Bilsteins.

Garage List
you can also buy oem replacements for your sport suspension shocks. They are made by Sachs and can be found at fcpeuro, oembimmerparts and elsewhere.

Anyone tried the Koni STR.T shocks on an e90? They seem like a good value as an OEM replacement

I'd go with bilstein B6 unless you are lowered.

I went with the B4 Sport shocks/struts, anyone know if I can replace the bump stops with the OEM ones if I'm maintaining the stock sport ride height? Sorry I'm such a noob when it comes to suspension.

I've read that some Bilstein shocks come with builtin bump stops? Do the B4 sports come with that?

Thanks

B4's are regular twin tube shocks like the OEM's so they need the bump stops.

Great timing on your post. I just put B6's on my son's 2007 335i sport today. The original oem Sachs were completely gone at 80K miles. I took it around the block and the ride actually seemed smoother and more compliant. My initial and very brief impression was very positive especially compared to the worn out oem shocks.

My son actually has the car out now. Since he drives it by far the most I'll ask him his first impressions when he gets home later tonight. I also replaced ALL of the bushing and hardware. All were worn some but not too bad. In reality they probably could have been reused. I ended up going with Bilstein on the top end and Lemforder on the bottom of the shocks.

Great analysis. When you say you replaced all of the bushings do you mean the control arm bushings as well? Did you use some kind of press? I'm at a fork in the road. I want to refresh the suspension but the difference between going with new control arms and just replacing the bushings is a huge. If it's not too difficult I would rather do it myself, otherwise I'll have to buy the control arm altogether.

Can you explain what you mean by this sentence "I ended up going with Bilstein on the top end and Lemforder on the bottom of the shocks." Do you mean the shock mounts?

Thanks

I just replaced mine with Koni STR.T from ECS back in January. I've been really happy with them so far, even though I'm still on my snow tires. I had them on my E46 and found them to be great for my needs. At $365/set, they're not too pricey either.

EDIT: I ordered the suspension install kit, too. I chose not to do the bushings or control arms, since an initial inspection determined they were in decent shape.

How many miles were you at when you inspected your car?

Hi Guys,

I think I am a bit forced to to hijack this thread, but I have a similar issue as the OP.

I've recently bought a sweet e92 335d that has around 100k km on it. I've got no idea about the maintenance done on the car, but I doubt that anyone has replaced any suspension elements since it drove off from the dealership. The car has the M-sport/performance suspension and Hartman progressive springs which make the car ridiculously low for my DD standards.

What are the options for shock + spring combo upgrade if I do not want to go stock? I've done some reading, though I got confused if the 'performance' shock is a bilstein b8? Or is it a b6?

Currently, I've been thinking about Bilstein B8 + Eibach Pro Kit (as I've been very fond of this setup in my other cars) or Koni Yellows + Eibach Pro Kit. Would it be an improvement over the oem performance kit?

Bilstein B12, I feel that you cannot beat it for the price.
