If you dont want issues dont remap.

If you remap, do it properly, as far as I know it doesnt matter if you get 240 or 260-270 horsepower, it will be just fine anyway.
The reason why some tuners just pull out 230-240 horsepower and 480-500 NM torque is because they dont know the program well enough to reach the engines potential.

Does anyone actually know if the "bigger" turbo on the 335d is any bigger than the one on the 325/30d ?

We know that the 330d can be mapped to 320 hp as the d3 boys did this in the Gumball.

How strange could that be!
A 335d will kick any 325d anytime even if the 325 is chipped or not

Its larger for sure.

They dyno 300-310 hp standard......

Most tuners tune the 330d to around 270 honest horsepower.

A crazy chip would take it up much higher, but its not safe.

ESS chip the 120d (163 hp) to 200, but they can also make it 220 if they push it, but not for customers They have a testcar themselves with 220 hp and it runs fine still....

why does the 325d not need ''dyno mode'' then

It does with an auto, but only if the tuner is "in the dark", not really knowing the basics of the map.

DMS= 240 hp, no warranty
Hartge=271 hp, full warranty

All of them are safe, Hartge is expensive but has warranty.

Forget those gearbox numbers please. Its BS.

Good luck man

But a chipped 325d is not very slow I can tell you, Ill meet you at the Ring and show you!
The thread was asking if the 325D was dead. Hence my post

Secondly, having driven a E60 525D for 60k miles I can agree it is not a slow engine.

Sorry I didnt get it

Just a quick question, the 335d, when does the torque really kick in?
On the 325d it starts to build up from 1300 rpm and kicks hard from 1750. Is the 335d similar, or does the smaller turbo work even earlier?

I would say there is no discernable lag at all, in other words you have boost at tickover. We've had two 330ds before and there was always a little delay at very low revs. The 123d I drove recently had the same characteristics compared to the 120d that I also run.

Regards

Chris

There was a slight but noticeable bit of turbo lag on the 525d especially if pulling out of a side road on a slight up hill incline.

With the 335d there is nothing discernible! it takes off like a bat out of hell even on partial throttle. Took a friend out last night for a quick spin and he was shocked at the phenomenal performance in comparison to his E46 330i coupe and his 845i (the m power v8)

The 525d was a completely different "older" engine `tho. The 525d only got the new 3.0d engine in March this year.

The new 525d is a detuned 3 litre diesel. The older engine was very similar to the equivilent 3 litre but of a lesser cubic capacity

Now I also understand better why I feel it pays off to rev the car almost maximum, since the max power is actually almost 400 rpm higher than I thought it was.

Mikem,
will you guys still go to the Ring 12-14th of April?

There`s about 15 of us all booked up, will be there Sat lunchtime `till Mon lunchtime.
