Question Another Bluetooth thread. *sorry*

Total newbie here, so please be patient!

I recently purchased a new-to-me 2008 e90 335i.

Before I begin, I have searched and read hundreds of posts on this board and others.

I can not figure out how to pair my Verizon Razr M with this car!!!

The devices see each other... the BMW appears on the phone and when selected, I am prompted to enter a PIN. I have tried 0000, 1234, last 4 of VIN, 123456, 000000, the PK# from the module in the trunk, etc. Each time, the car asks me to enter the PIN. When I do, the car tells me that pairing was rejected and the phone shows "rejected by BMW".

I have tried initiating with the phone, with the car, with I drive, with voice commands, while standing on my head whistling Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, wearing one blue sock and one brown sock (as suggested by a member of another board who is clearly suffering from extreme mental illness)... and Nada. I even tried whistling the freaking German National Anthem to no avail.

I have paired dozens of phones with cars over the years. I have paired this phone with multiple rental cars, Cadillac, Volvo, Mercedes, etc.

While I understand that there is an "approved" BMW phone list... isn't basic Bluetooth just Bluetooth for purposes of basic functionality? I'm not even concerned with address book, voice dialing, etc... I'd just like to be able to answer the phone!

Help!!!

Twinkle twinkle should have worked! My car responds to it everytime!!! ;-)

The way BT works is that when you pair your phone first, you have enter a PIN in the car , the CCC will ask for it. Enter the same pin on the phone, and you are good to go..

Now, I am not sure how it works if you have just a radio..

I have nav/ccc. Every time I have tried, the phone asks for the pin first. The car only asks after receiving the pairing request from the phone.

Is there a different procedure that causes the CCC to allow PIN entry before the phone?

I have tried every menu option, but haven't yet seen a screen that allows for PIN entry before the phone!

Thanks!!!

That might be the problem...

Can you remove ALL the devices paired (including previous devices) and then try again?

All previous devices removed. Disconnected negative battery cable for 1+ hours for good measure.

I stopped by a local Verizon Wireless store yesterday. Tried to pair 3 different phones, including a Samsung and iPhone. All resulted in the same "rejected by BMW" message.

I really don' t want to go to the stealership!!!!!

I would think that if the module was bad, I would get nothing at all...

Any thoughts?

Module is not bad..
Might be a BT version issue..

Any chance you can try an older mobile, like, one from 2008-2010??

The Samsung I tried yesterday was an older model. Tried an iPhone 3 and 4. All are know to work with CIC.

Sounds like user error. I have had trouble pairing before, even with phones I used in the car previously. It always ends up that I'm overlooking something simple in the pairing procedure. I don't have nav, but some phones time out quickly, others (blackberry I think) require more than 4 digits. I can't remember what I was doing wrong the last time I had that problem, but it was something simple like that, or the sequence of connecting being out of order. I realize this will probably only frustrate you, but good luck!

Also, I had an older razor that wasn't connecting and it just ended up working a couple weeks later, the phone was being stupid. And sometimes, though very very seldom, the Bluetooth will be stupid and quit working even after restarting the car. Every time the latter happened, it was working fine the following day, but was too frustrating not being able to make it work the day it stopped working.

CIC?? you have a CIC? but you said you drive a 2008 car..

Try this,
Remove all devices from the paired list.
Switch off Bluetooth in the iDrive.
Switch off the car.
Let it sleep for 15 mins.

Start again:
BT on.
Set BMW into discover mode (Add device option)
Search from phone. Select BMW
WAIT for prompt on Car to enter pin.
Enter same pin on phone..

Hope this works...

Told you I was a newbie. Haven't done the retrofit... yet.

I'm still getting CIC and CCC confused. I have what God gave it. CCC it is.

I'll try your suggestion anyway. Sounds logical.

It's not procedural, provided that the proper procedure isn't completely off the wall. I have paired this same phone with a dozen or more other cars... have paired dozens of other phones with cars... and the tech guy at Verizon had the same result.

If I wasn't getting a message on both the phone and monitor that "pairing was rejected by BMW XXXXX", I would agree... but no luck, no matter how many digits or in what order the pairing is attempted.

I just connected my bf's droid to my car and when it asks for the pin on the phone I just make one up, usually 12345, and then when the car asks i do the same, it has worked for me this way in both my e60 and e93, one with idrive, one without.

hope it helps

No go. Even the SA at local dealer is clueless. He wants to charge me about $120.00 labor to "dig down layer after layer through the menus in the software and find the code."

The issues here is not that the code is incorrect... any code should work on this vehicle. I tried the PK anyway, even though that only applies to older models. Ths issue is that AFTER the phone and car are communicating, the BMW rejects the pairing attempt. Not an "incorrect code" error message... "pairing rejected by BMW XXXXX."

Garage List
Btw. The code you need to put in for the Bluetooth on a Verizon phone is the last 4 digits of your cell phone number. Same code goes in the radio.
