turning off headlamp washers?

Can it be done? Its annoying when I have spent ages cleaning the car and I decide to use the screen washers which automatically brings on the headlamp wash covering the bonnet in washer fluid. Can't seem to find an option for it in i-drive.

Not always practical when driving at night!!

I removed fuse No. 48 and that sorted it.
When I get round to it, I'll fit a switch with the fuse in series, so I can switch it on/off as required. My beef is the threat of losing the headlamp washer covers in the freezing weather.

The fuse is behind the glovebox - remove the cover at the back of the glovebox - 2 x quarter-turn screws, then use the tool to remove the fuse. Double check on the cardboard crib sheet on the reverse of the cover to make sure you have the correct fuse.

Thanks Mike, thats great I am going to remove mine as much as they are needed for their purpose they are a pain spraying fine mist/water all over the front bonnet especially after a clean car

I know it's a very personal thing, keeping a car clean, but for me it is a tool and transport we are talking about, washers are needed virtually every time out for me.

I washed my car off yesterday, due to salt all over it. 30 miles this morning, and it is worse than yesterday.

BTW, I've got neighbours and friends who think I'm OTT, with keeping my car clean.

I find it's such a fine mist from the headlamp washers that it doesn't make too much of a mess of the bonnet.

Bear in mind it is not always the OPERATION of the HLW system but the poor quality fluid contained therein that causes the jet loss.

So, if you're going to pull fuse#48, make sure you run a decent quality screenwash solution up through the system beforehand to avoid possible loss.......

You shouldn't lose washer caps if you're using plenty good screenwash, but I do agree it is a pain having just washed the car and they cover the bonnet/wings in screenwash!

I agree with the quality of screenwash - however, not using BMW stuff, I don't know if it's quite good enough - the label quotes suitable for fan jet washers etc, plus, being a new-to-me car, I don't know what has been in there.

Better safe than sorry for me!

With the following week predicted of icy conditions and road salt being used I decided to leave the fuse in (plus I have not washed my car this week so can get more dirty lol)

Anyway I ended up buying 2 5l containers (£6.99 each) last month from LIDL, I have mixed it at a ratio of 1:3 and so far no issues. Plus as said above its made in germany/fan spray compatiable, so if its good enought for cars over there with their colder climates it good enough for me.
