New amp and kicker

I am planning on putting in a 10inch kicker and amp into my car. I have very little knowledge on radios and aftermarket systems. I was planning on branching off of the factory amp wiring harness. I was wondering if doing so the factory subs would still be functional considering I'm not disconnecting the wires from the factory amp.
Anything helps, thank you.

There's no way the factory amp will be able to power a typical 10" sub

You will need a technique harness in order to utilize the factor set up and be able to incorporate your after mkt amp & sub.
