No Boost, No Codes
Recently my car started doing something really weird. So basically I'll start it up, take off, and then shortly into my drive I will realize that I have no to very little boost. The car drives fine and smooth but there is no boost. I get no codes, no check engine lights, nothing. I can hear the turbo spool up (I have the BMS intake) but the car drives like an NA engine (feels like a 325i), doesn't shudder, shake, idle hunt or anything like that. It literally drives perfectly but feels like an NA car as mentioned above (man do those turbos make a huge difference). The way I get it to work again is I pull over, turn the car off and back on, and all is good to go. I'm not sure if its tune related as it has happened on MHD and Cobb. I have some shadow codes for my fuel pump (guess its on its way out, codes are 2BEE, 2C01, 2BF0). Anyone know whats could be going on? AFAIK, I have no boost leaks. Could this related to the weak HPFP?
Thanks in advance.

Obligatory "log it" response.
I had almost identical symptoms on my car with both a JB4 and with MHD. Turned out to be a tired boost solenoid. Less than $100 (took a punt on an N54 one -- Pierburg -- and it's worked perfectly), install's straightforward, and my car's been running great ever since. |

Thanks for the info on the boost solenoid, definitely going to look into that. Are you aware of a DIY for this? Mind sharing part number if you don't mind? Thanks for the help!

Genuine BMW part: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...SABEgJB7fD_BwE
What I bought (and have had zero issues with): https://www.ecstuning.com/b-pierburg...747626350~hla/ No DIY that I'm aware of, but check this thread: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1357439 You'll just want to take the intake off to get a little room to work. Look straight down after you do from the passenger side of the engine bay and you'll see this. The two 10mm are a pain, but getting the vacuum hoses off are really tough. Pretty straightforward, though. I was boosting no more than 6psi up until I replaced it, and immediately hit over 20psi once I was done (was doing a custom tune with Ken). |
