Can you only block the egr at the intake side and leave exhaust side open? I would like to maintain the fast warm up times you get with the egr cooler without the carbon issues.

Don't. You're leaving yourself open to cracking the EGR cooler in no time.

That won't help because with the block off, no gasses are flowing through to pass heat to the coolant. As torqu3 said the cooler can still crack with the exhaust manifold pressure exposed to it.

Ok thank you, makes sense with no egr opening to allow pressure to escape into intake i guess that would put stress on the cooler it was not designed to handle.

If thats the case then we really shouldnt be using the electronic delete as well....

I was hoping anyone using the electrical block would have the foresight to block the exhaust side at least. I'll post in that thread to do so. I may have mentioned it before...

Hi guys, i am new to the forums and new to e90s. I have just bought myself a late 2008 LCI 335d and i want to do an egr delete. What are the options for me to keep everything intact. So ideally i do not want to remove the egr cooler. With these block off plates do i still need to remove the EGR valve or can that stay as is with all connections and so on as normal.

Are these block of plates by iaknown available to UK owners?

I cant find anything online to insert into the EGR end of the cooler pipe; like the circle plate which is part of iaknown kit.

Yes one of those plates would do the trick however it is likely to cause an engine management light unless your car is remapped with the option selected to turn off the EGR, in which case you wouldn't need to block it off either.
I removed did lot on my car: blanking plate, EGR delete pipe and removed the cooler and bunged the coolant pipes. I did this as I was remapping the car anyway plus wanted to remove the excess there for future work / maintenance on the car.

I've spoken to the seller and its exactly what i want. So i block off the EGR cooler at the exhaust side, put the copper plugs into the cooler pipes going into either side of the cooler and then have it remapped. while leaving everything looking stock on the car.

The only thing dumber than a dumb question is somebody that misunderstands a perfectly legitimate question and in a attempt to knock somebody down a peg by calling their question dumb, reveals their own ignorance.

He's specifically asked if there was a way to block the EGR on the intake side. The theory being that exhaust gasses would still be flowing through the heat exchanger thereby increasing water temp. There's reasons why this is a bad idea, but it's not a dumb question.

You can't block the egr and still get heat into coolant because there will be no egr flow with egr disabled. When I had my vw tdi,I was thinking to route the egr into exhaust to use the cooler to get heat but I never got to it.

That would require some engineering but if you could achieve this and you create a bolt on kit that would be amazing.

any ideas, why is necesary to block also the egr cooler pipes? If the EGR is blocked, than no gass is going "to the egr cooler", so it doesnt matter , if the water is going thru ? or?
