Alpine Retrofit for Base Stereo

So first of all I'm not an audiophile but my ears can pick up the crappy stereo I have. I've read all the stickies for upgrading and came to the conclusion that I would be happy with the Alpine Retrofit upgrade because it's within my budge and decent reviews.

However I see that a lot of members here are selling their OEM Hi Fi system (amp and speakers).

Questions:
1. Could I pick up one of these hifi's (alot cheaper) and install in my car?
2. How would it compare to the Alpine retrofit?
3. What else will I need besides a technic harness and coding it?
4. Would and L7 amp and speakers work?

FYI

Questions:
1. Could I pick up one of these hifi's (alot cheaper) and install in my car?
(It makes no sense not to go aftermarket if you are considering something
other than the Alpine Kit its basicly the only one BMW has . Retrofitting the
other systems BMW makes is not cost effective or a good option sonicly.)
2. How would it compare to the Alpine retrofit?
(Haven't heard it but its a modest upgrade.)
3. What else will I need besides a technic harness and coding it?
(If you get the Alpine kit you don't need a Technic Harness.)
If you are going aftermarket you need a Technic Harness , compatible amplifier most will change at least there front door speakers and underseats, Speaker adapters for most speakers , power wire and fuses , factory tweeter pods as shown in the Alpine kit . Recoding to Hi Fi or a Jl cleansweep or processor to flatten out the eq curve .
4. Would and L7 amp and speakers work?
(It would be hard to source the parts very expensive and the money you
would spend on an aftermarket system would get you a much better system
for a way less money . Almost no one retrofits the stock stereo. Hi Fi or L7.)

The easiest but not cheapest solution is a MusicarNW kit.

The all Diy is described in the thread above.

However I see that a lot of members here are selling their OEM Hi Fi system (amp and speakers).
That's because it isn't that good either. Although it doesn't suck as bad.

Thanks for the response. I guess I'll refrain from buying one of the used HIFI amp and speakers from forum members since its not much of an upgrade. Still thinking about just doing the Alpine upgrade however.
