I have a Valentine One here from about 6 years ago. It is a pre-POP 1.8.

THIS IS THE BEST ONE THEY EVER MADE.

I copied this description from a guy on ebay. Although douchey, he is 100% right and explains it well:

All Valentine One units have a software revision number (although they basically look the same from the outside), these are the "upgrades" that Valentine does...they upgrade you to the newest version...which is almost always better than the previous EXCEPT in this unique case.

This software is kind of rare in a good way, it is version 1.8, but before POP protection was implemented into the software. That addition of the POP feature DECREASED long range performance so it could scan two little segments looking for blips of POP radar.

Guess what?? Pop radar is about as rare as winning the lottery and is truly no real threat. Only one Police Radar company makes it and it has an extremely poor market share, it was such a failure that their new unit doesn't even have POP capabilities (MPG Ranger radar unit).

At first Valentine was not going to implement it into the software, it was even posted on his website......after losing sales to Escort who was marketing how they protected you from POP radar and how important it was to be protected, Valentine changed his mind......AT YOUR LONG RANGE EXPENSE.

In addition, while trying to be hyper-sensitive to POP, a lot of false alarms are generated that would normally be recognized as non-police radar by a non-POP V1. Any real radar detector fanatic, such as myself, know this but the average radar detector buyer is left out in the dark and thinks the newer models are better.

Wrong! If you want the best, you want a pre-POP software Valentine One version 1.8 like this one. These are HARD to find, bordering on RARE.
