BMWhat adaptor question

I've been using the Scantool MX Bluetooth for the last couple of years but it's just gone caput, so I think it's about time I invested in BMWhat, can their OBD adaptor be permanently installed like the Scantool (which switched itself off), or does it need to be removed when not being used?

Cheers

I'd wait a little while if I were you mate, they're apparently bringing out a newer version pretty soon that you can register your interest for. It should solve a lot of the compatibility problems and open up some more options.

That's interesting to know thanks, does it apply to the Android version?

Don't think so, just iPhone as its wifi. I can't see why the android app can't use a wifi adaptor though.

I wouldn't want to keep it plugged in without an OBD2 extender as they're fairly big units.

I kept the Scantool Bluetooth plugged in but the OBD port is up behind the dash with a fair bit of room, it was useful as I had Torque plus start when it connected to the car Bluetooth & alarms were set for water & dpf temperature etc

I've emailed BMWhat as suggested & will post their reply

The BMWhat adaptor stays live - I don't know for how long, if it goes to sleep with the car though as I've never left it on long enough.

Adaptor works fine with Torque and DashCommander too.

Yes, I moved it, which makes it harder to access, the downside is that it's harder for me to access too!

Official BMWhat Reply:

Q: Can the BMWhat Bluetooth adaptor be left permanent connected?

A: ... no it should not – many cars dont let it go to sleep since the ECUs keep on communicating
