N54 Power in High Temps

New to the turbo game, Bone stock 2007 E90 335i N54 120k miles w/ factory oil cooler. Not looking for crazy power just 1 question.

When it is up to 70 degrees fahrenheit (21 Celsius) outside which is typically at night here in Cali. THE CAR IS A ROCKET!

At 80+ degrees (27 celsius) in the daytime the difference in power and torque is more than noticeable.

I understand this is purely science and cold air is best for the performance of an internal combustion engine. BUT!

What mods ( and brands of mods specifically) have you personally experienced give an N54 that performance when it's 80+ degrees outside?

I'm assuming the answer is as simple as DCI and intercooler or FBO and tune. Input from N54 owners in hot and humid areas would be greatly appreciated!

Thank You!

A lot of it is due to the crappy stock intercooler BMW fitted. You are probably experiencing timing corrections due to High IAT's,

Any 5 inch or better FMIC will perform better consistently even under hot temperatures.

You want a tune to make the most of it though, at least Stage 1/1+ MHD OTS

93 oct or better fuel recommended, but failing that even 91oct will give a decent improvement.

Before you tune, would recommend maintenance before mods,

High intake air temps will really kill power if the DME has to pull a bunch of timing. Like others have said....get a better intercooler.

Like mentioned, replacing the intercooler will make the biggest difference as far as temps. The Bmw stock one sucks... I cant even give mine away lol.
I have a BMS one but the ARM intercoolers are a good option at a reasonable price. I personally stay away from the ebay stuff.
I use to run DCI but I have recently switched back to the stock box with a good drop in filter. The DCI sit right above the hot intake. If you're sitting in traffic or low speeds, its sucking in hot air and slowly heat soaking the intercooler. Moving at high speeds with a DCI is fine because the engine bay is being flushed with air. I just prefer an intake that draws in air outside the engine bay. the Stett CAI is probably the best for this as far as flow and drawing in cold air.

I ran the MHD Stage 1+ tune with E50 and stock intercooler for about a week. After 2 solid pulls you can feel the power loss on the third pull. After installing a 5" intercooler i no longer feel that power loss on consistent back to back pulls. With Ambient around the low 90F my intake temps wouldn't go higher then 108-110F where as on the third pull my intake temps were already hitting 140F with the stock intercooler and you can see the timing corrections on the logs.
