65-70K indeed seems to be the charm for the water pump. I think I'll have mine proactively replaced around that mileage along with the thermostat ...

Smart, no need to get stranded, you know it will go out eventually anyways.

I did my preventatively at 138,000 miles. Got lucky I suppose. I imagine heat is what does that part in, so I would guess the 335i is more likely to have a premature failure.

I would like to do ceramic coated headers... to reduce under the hood temps...a little extra power would be a nice side benefit.

Watkins is a great track as are most of the ones in the east coast with maybe the exception of Poconos. BMW CCA runs good events and many of us also drive with PCA or NASA.

Go to www.motorsportreg.com, enter your zip code and filter by Driver school.

I personally thought NASA mid-Atlantic had the best instructors but they only run 2 tracks (VIR and Summit). You'll be find with any of the clubs I mentioned. This year I've done mostly PCA but I've run with all of them in the past.

Heard some sad news happened on Saturday at hyperfest at summit point Jefferson circuit. An instructor was killed in passenger seat when driver lost control of car and it slid into a tree.

Heard the same, occurred during Hyperdrive which is basically first timers on track with instructors and pace car leading the pack. No passing and therefore no flaggers on duty. It usually takes place during lunch, 30 min class room and 20 min track time.

Hyperfest (the name for this weekend event) is the one NASA event I have avoided in the past because it's a public event which combines Drift and some other entertainment, but it's just too out of control. It attracts so many non-core NASA folks. And often time the spectators think they're the next coming of Ken Block after seeing all the drift events and decide to take a stab at Hyperdrive. Or even worse you have drunk spectators causing fights or other kind of havoc.

^ Yikes! That's terrible

Regardless, it's a sad day.

http://www.your4state.com/story/d/st...t0W3CDbMCgcDbA

Apparently there was another crash during the race too and someone had to be taken to the hospital. It's weird, when we had the 12 hour Devil in the Dark race there was one wreck that I recalled that looked pretty bad. A Golf got upside down, but the guy walked away from it with no problems. Nothing else really happened.
I guess this crowd is a bit out of control as Tii had stated.

When you have obnoxious redneck spectators throwing beer cans from the bridge onto a cars during the middle of a race, these things happen.

That's awful. Summit Point is a more dangerous track in some respects because it has all the trees, especially Jefferson, as opposed to NJMP which has plenty of runoff (in most areas, anyway; still has its dangers like any track would if you're not careful).

There's a reason I prefer to run with organized clubs like BMW CCA and PCA because their environments filter out those who don't belong.

My car has 65K miles so it's time for a new waterpump. It's at Bimmerworks now. Thanks for asking.

We may be at Watkins Glen next Friday for the 4 hour Enduro in the Spec E36.
I think mine was around 84k but I know 65 is when it gets iffy

I saw this yesterday, definitely sad and I know someone who used to go to Hyperfest and he said the same thing that has been mentioned about people drinking and it just being crazy and unsafe.

My first event was Jefferson in 2012 and it down poured most of the weekend. Sure there are dangers due to the trees being so close, but my instructor was great. I am going to Summit Main next month with NJ CCA.

Despite only 3 sessions per day, 3 day weekend at the Glen was still fun. Best time of the day was 2:20

Could anybody give me a lil insight on inspections for BMWCCA or Audi club, Im looking to sign up for there events but they say your car needs to be tech't at a approved station 2 weeks prior. I have a track only car, no registration and trailered and both are stored in separate location so loading it up to take it anywhere is a not easy.

Do they do on track tech at all or you really need to have it done prior no exceptions. I've only run with NASA and used to having it done at the track but im looking to branch out.

Thanks

Not sure about Audi club, but BMWCCA want you to get car thoroughly looked at before the event by a qualified person or shop. Will be detailed on the club's inspection form. Some chapters also have a tech inspection event a couple weeks before the event. BMWCCA has a site tech inspection, but that is just checking to make sure your helmet is not expired, that everything that loose is out of your car and that your brake lights are working. Sometimes they check the torque on the wheels as well.

Hope that helps.
