120k Miles tune up question
Hey guys hows it going? I have a 2007 E90 335i and I am just now pushing about 120,000 miles on it. I bought it in '08 with about 19,000 miles. I drive quite a bit and don't have any mods at all.
No serious problems thus far other than replacing the water pump at about 110K. What should I look into as far as a general tune up. I change the oil regularly but that's IT during the course of ownership. Spark plugs? Trans oil? Also, it is a ridiculous idea to throw a JB4 on it at this point? any input would be appreciated. Thanks! |

Why haven't you been performing the standard maintenance according to the schedule? If you had, you wouldn't need someone to tell you what the car needs.

Thanks for the help guys.
Well I only do things as needed since I am on a budget, I replace brakes as needed, change the oil, tires, etc. I am just getting some input from the forum what you guys recommend for this specific vehicle. I buy everything at wholesale cost since I work at an automotive shop and would rather not go through BMW since the vehicle is out of warranty. Any feedback on whether it is madness to put a JB4 on a high mileage car? |

There is no standard maintenance. the car will tell you what you need. Since he did the water pump already, the coolant is good till 200k now. The only thing I would recommend is a valve cleaning. Plugs are due about every 40k ish and coils only need to be changed as need upon failure. All the rubber hoses are probably fine also. Trans oil you debate all day but all of my autos have 200k on original filter and trans fluids. If you have a manual trans, now is a good time to change that and the diff gear oil. Both easy to do.

Not replace injectors
Injectors very rarely go bad. Sending them out for professional cleaning to someone like Mr. Injector would be money well spent. You'll be amazed by the power increase and 'harder pull' especially at the top end.
As for tune up: all fluids (except coolant). This includes power steering fluid, gearbox or transmission fluid, differential fluid, transfer case fluid (if it's an Xi) power steering fluid and brake fluid. Spark plugs are a decent option. I wouldn't replace coil packs unless you had a problem - that's a bit excessive IMO. Filters would be next on my list: air filter, cabin/fresh air filter, transmission filter (if equipped with an automatic) I'd probably also pay my independent mechanic to pull the fuel pump/filter and clean the screen out. If you have an Xi, which I don't believe you do but for those reading, inspect your front outer CV boot for cracks while you have the car up on jack stands or a lift. Replace if there's a hint of cracking or deterioration of the rubber. Then just get it professionally detailed and you're good for a long while.

You can not clean DI injectors. They are not a sevicable part.
