Keep or not? Delete EGR and exhaust smell in the cabin

Hey All,

I am going back and forth on what I want to do with the 2011 E70 BMW X5 35D, which has 187K miles on her. I go back and forth on sell this car and moving to another m car - BMW x5m, but I am not sure. This is my spouse car. I bought the car with 156K miles about 2 years ago and at that time I was out of the country and my spouse had a lot of issues all of these items were replaced: DPF, NOX, EGR Cooler, Pee Tank, Throttle body, Glow Plugs and gaskets.

With that being said, what suggestions do you all offer with the amount of miles on the car and items have been replaced would you consider do a delete or not?

I know the car has not had a carbon clean since I have own it and I am not sure if previous owners did or not.

What I am thinking about doing is a CBU, Swirl removals, would like to remove just the EGR and cooler, but is that recommend or not?

I am also currently having a exhaust smell in the cabin and I think it might be coming from the exhaust manifold, but I have not checked yet. The high pressure line was just replaced last year. I am having some codes displaying, as well:

4BCC
4B82
4862
4B1C

I did notice some oil leaking ish from the turbo and on the turbo pipe. I have not replaced and o rings or vacuum lines.

What are thoughts or suggestions?

Buy an egr race pipe kit install that then secure the egr valve off to the side. Then in the future if any other emissions equipment goes bad just do an ABC delete if you're able to in your area.

I had exhaust gas in the cabin. I was able to solve it by tightening the V clamp where DPF attach to the exhaust manifold. I was able to do it from the top of the engine after removing the air filter box.

My car is a e90 2010 335d. See red line in picture below:

In addition to the EGR V clamp, check the exhaust pressure sensor rubber hose.

What EGR kit would you buy or does it not matter and would you get a tune and with who?

There is no emissions testing in my area so no problem.

Thank you

Chris

This was just replaced last year. It blew off and melted a sensor, as well.

I was informed it could also be leaking in front of the exhaust manifold. We have seen the bolts become loose and/or break. Have you heard this?

I got the atm kit. If you keep the egr valve secured off to the side you shouldn't get any codes so no tuned required. If you do want to go with full deletes I recommend BRR tuning. That's what I have on my 335d and that's who I will go with on my x5 35d. Great customer service and in my opinion the most refined tune with the most power. He'll set you up with everything you need. Your x5 will be a completely new beast. Make sure you tune the transmission to get the full effect.

Did you just do the EGR and Cooler Delete or did you do everything?

My 335d has full deletes: downpipe, tune, full exhaust, egr race pipe w/ coolant block offs.

My x5d for now will just get the egr race pipe w/ coolant block offs and the egr valve secured to the side till my downpipe comes in among other things like the intercooler, vacuum system parts, Harmonic Dampener, clutched alt pulley, new belts, and thermostat & water pump.
